i wouldn't call most of the bands on warped tour nowadays either "punk" or "metal" as much as "shitty music." that said, sometimes pretty good bands sneak into the lineup. at different points in time, i remember crime in stereo, polar bear club, vaux, lifetime (!) and so on. this year i hear they have some decent stuff (moving mountains, against me!) which is cool i guess, but warped has always been the "punk" fest for kids who a) don't know about legitimate punk (or metal) fests (sound & fury, chaos in tejas, rainfest, best friends day, the fest in gainesville come to mind) or b) live in the kind of place where warped tour is the closest approximation to "culture" they might get on an annual basis, and travel, i mean have you seen what they do to people flying nowadays? they take pictures of their penises n such.iron codpiece said:I went to Warped when it was punk bands. Was unaware that it had shifted to metal.
My band played on the little 'local stage' for two cities. We got to a ton of people. It was awesome.
I went a few times after that. It was still awesome. Then again I love skateboards
Let's not start the impossible to win and ever retarded 'real punk' argument, shall we? At the very least punk is how it was billed at the time (2002).campofapproval said:i wouldn't call most of the bands on warped tour nowadays either "punk" or "metal" as much as "shitty music." that said, sometimes pretty good bands sneak into the lineup. at different points in time, i remember crime in stereo, polar bear club, vaux, lifetime (!) and so on. this year i hear they have some decent stuff (moving mountains, against me!) which is cool i guess, but warped has always been the "punk" fest for kids who a) don't know about legitimate punk (or metal) fests (sound & fury, chaos in tejas, rainfest, best friends day, the fest in gainesville come to mind) or b) live in the kind of place where warped tour is the closest approximation to "culture" they might get on an annual basis, and travel, i mean have you seen what they do to people flying nowadays? they take pictures of their penises n such.iron codpiece said:I went to Warped when it was punk bands. re: this, i'll just say from my experience there tends to be a general consensus on what is punk among people involved in punk, though not among people arguing semantics, which tends to be people who do not (or longer care) care about punk rock nor have any current involvement in punk and related subcultures.iron codpiece said:Let's not start the impossible to win and ever retarded 'real punk' argument, shall we?
