So the Delta Force games have been released on GOG:

The only game in the series I've played was Delta Force 2 when a friend gave me his copy, but I played the shit out of that. The game looked like ass even back then, but it struck a nice balance between power fantasy (you gun down entire terrorist camps with little to no help from your brain-dead AI squadmates) and realism (bullet drop-off, deadly shrapnel from explosions, enemies die with one hit, and you can only withstand a few shots at most).

For six games under $20 USD and full compatibility with modern machines (the Steam version of DF2 has a nasty issue with random crashes), I'd say this is a steal.

Ah, good old Delta Force. What happen to novalogic? They were making new DF and suddenly went quite. Their last game - Joint Operation was a fantastic game. It made CoD and BF look like a joke, yet they just vanished from gaming scene :|

I mostly remember the multiplayer. Got some fond memories of sniper battles, trying to find the one moving dot a mile away while the other guy is trying to do the same to you.

Oh, geez Delta Force such fond memories: I remember watching two people play - one scored a kill and the other one died, so at first I thought it was a funny coincidence because you can't really have two games coordinated like that, right? But it happened again and again. And then I found out about multiplayer.

I liked how the games tried to be realistic and surviving a bullet wound was almost impossible unless it was a small calibre weapon or perhaps you decided to equip a vest or something. Otherwise it's usually a one-two hit kill. This was also ruined by the AI being dumb as hell - they would sometimes not notice you at all, other times they will see you from two-three kilometres away and start shooting. On the upside their aim was worse than a blind stormtrooper with arthritis. I'm not sure how true it is, but I figure that because the AI wasn't really good at engaging you at reasonable distance, the devs made their aim terrible, so they would shoot generally towards you but with a large random offset. On the downside, very rarely they would actually hit, so you might just drop dead because a single enemy in the enemy camp, which you see as almost a dot on the horizon, managed to spot you and somehow lined up a perfect shot with an AK-47 from several kilometres away.

Ah, good times. I don't actually look forward to replaying the old games, though.

From what I gather, they got slapped with a hefty fine in 2005 for using unlicensed software. This, combined with new management that was more concerned with making a quick buck than a quality game, resulted in Novalogic fading into obscurity. They're apparently still around in some form, though they were purchased by THQ Nordic back in October.

So there's a slim chance that someone will make Joint Operations 2? Good. :p

You used to be able to get the Delta Force 2 disk at the 99 cents store in a four pack with Comanche 4, some tank game, and something else I completely don't remember.

I played hundreds and hundreds of hours of Black Hawk Down's multiplayer. Jesus that game was great.
