Take a shower and "relieve" some stress the only way you know how...
By running your hotwheels through the shower chasing each other around the bathtub? :)
I was thinking more along the lines of having a wank, but yeah I guess that works too...

Acknowledge that you are depressed, or just sad. Meditate, think about why, how it happened and what you can do about it. Usually, there's no point to being sad. Of course that wont prevent you or me from being sad, it just makes it a wee bit easier every time.

Then, buy a small book and write in it. Random thoughts, jokes, poetry, anything. Works for me like a charm.

Also, well.. say hello to your one-eyed trouser snake. It sounds a bit off, but I suppose it works.

Me? No, I only have cheery wanks.

tomtom94's Depression Advice (pat. pending):

1: Immerse yourself in a game or activity. Don't play it while thinking about your problems; play something that makes you completely forget them. You'll be enjoying yourself, which will help.
2: Talk to real friends. Don't burden them with your problems; but if they can help they will.
3: Wank. It helps.
4: Sleep. You'll feel SO MUCH better in the morning after a good night's sleep.

I always listen to good and happy music to make me feel better.

I'm still amazed at how no matter what happens, this song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0epwjWF3Wwo] always manages to make me happier ^-^
That song made me literally vomit.

OT: Well one can give you tons of suggestions but the best one would be to do whatever it is that makes you happy. Try a little candy to get the mood right then do something that gets you a little happy. Then you escalate. Because ive found that things that make you REALLY happy and such tend to be...well..meh when you are really low. So if the happiest thing doesnt make you happy nothing else will. Thats why you start of small and work yer way up, it'll atleast keep yer mind busy ;)

Ive just crashed my motorcycle being a dick on a racetrack. for those of you that dont know me, im only happy when im on my motorbike, and ive only got myself to blame.

Im angry, really down, and just fed up with life completely now. im sick of making bad decisions.

so yeah, i could say i am depressed.

What i do to cheer myself up? Fuck knows, i only seem to be fucking depressed lately - guess life's a shitter.

Walk it off is always a good idea.. take a walk, put some music in your ear that cheers you up and try to remember that you can't fix everything. Empathy is a treasure, and it's very good of you to listen, but you just can't always help.

Things will work out.

That's coming from someone who has had these troubles from both sides.

Edit:
With a severe depression, and you will know it when you have it, seeking professional help is the only good option.

Huh, I had a girlfriend like that, she was awesome, always smiled when she was around and cried when she was alone. She needed as much help as she could get, I managed to talk her out of suicide numerous times, or so she claimed. I tried to stop her cutting herself but failed. I dumped her about a month in, I regret that.

Point is, don't give up on your friend, you stand a chance of losing them forever.

But I'm going to tell you now, you need to look out for yourself as well. Don't let his problems affect you too much, try and stay positive and grind on with your life, however difficult it may or may not be. As you help him out, things get easier, the burden will lighten and you'll eventually see him improve if you give the right advice.

NOTE: The text assumes that your friend is a he, this is a norm for me when writing about anonymous people. I, however, assume that your friend is a she, am I right?

Do communicate, but don't let them bury you in their problems. Just go to sleep.
