You all suck, this movie was hilarious.

Also, dragonball is srs business.

Also, Akira fucking Toriyama was a producer - ain't NOTHING in this film that doesn't have his approval. Your collective whining means shit in the face of the creator's choice.
First, check the IMDB page, Akira Toriyama's only credit is a writing one based SOLELY on the fact that he wrote the manga. He had no creative input on this movie. Even if he was given a producers credit, that doesn't mean anything. It would essentially mean "here's a big stack of cash for creating this thing we're gonna bastardize."

Imagine a picture of a middle finger since I don't know how to post an image. Someone please tell me how to do this.

More like "Akira Toriyama was a producer, ain't NOTHING in this film that he didn't pay for." Been a part of the film industry for a few years now, and I can tell you that a Producer's #1 concern is "making money". Bare minimum? The Director's the only guy who's concerned with creative vision...

I didn't go see the flick so I've no cute picture to contribute... just wanted to add in that this inevitable fail of a feature falls under the safety umbrella of "Adaptation": Same as the original manga/anime which is an adaptation of "Journey to the West", an old Chinese story.

The original manga started out an idea inspired by "Journey to the West". After the first 7 or so chapters, that loose affiliation pretty much went bye bye. Secondly, while Akira Toriyama probably made some money off this movie, the right weren't his to sell. They belong to Toei productions and Bird Studio and Shonen Jump. I still haven't found his name attached to the credits other than the one for his creation of the manga. I'm willing to bet he's probably not at fault for how this turned out.

Actually, immediately after posting my original reply, I thought it odd that "Akira Toriyama" produced this movie and did some googling. Sure enough, it is NOT produced by Akira Toriyama, but *IS* produced by Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, etc). This, unfortunately, means that unless Toei set up some kinda deal that "Toriyama sees cash on the backend for all Dragonball-related projects", it's very likely that Toriyama himself gets *nothing*.

So, yeah... even the notion that "Toriyama produced" it and therefore gave "all approvals" is total ridiculousness... that guy's post is the biggest fail of the thread :)

Exactly. To say that this is in any way, shape or form, a vision of Akira Toriyama's is lunacy. On that note, I was hoping that with Stephen Chow's involvement, the movie might be better. His movies have a kind of silly premises, but the comedy and action sensibilities, I thought, would have made for a good DB movie. Was I ever wrong. I get the feeling he didn't have much input himself.

Never ever going to work (unless Michael Bay was directing it then its a very big if.)

(I said Michael Bay because he made a live action Transformers work so I wont second guess him.)
describe "worked", because I would probably use a few of these posters to describe anything Michael Bay did, especially transformers.
