My utopia would be an approximate cross between a forum like this, virtual reality and Second Life. Imagine a world where you could plug yourself in and then look like whatever you wanted, do whatever activities you imagine, live in whatever you imagine. After-all, in a virtual world made of bits and data, producing fantastic architecture and scenery would require no resources other than a programmer, making them relatively cheap compared to real life works. It would effectively be a post-scarcity society and one where it would be impossible to be physical hurt or killed, what's not to like?
Sounds like the loading room from The Matrix.

...I know kung fu. :D

Anyway, I'd advocate for some form of technocracy. Scientists, engineers, and technologists who have knowledge, expertise, or skills, would compose the governing body, instead of politicians, businessmen, and economists.

Got it,MILFS. They're everywhere, everyone is a MILF. It would be awesome. Everything else is the same but all the people on the earth get transformed into hawt MILFs. I mean seriously who wouldn't want to live in such a place.
I know OP asked us not to judge anyone else's Utopia's and honestly that's probably for the best since this entire thread is essentially gonna turn into everyone rolling their eyes at everyone else's utopia.

But honestly this is probably the best Utopia we're gonna get so I'm pretty much on board.

Just make em androids and we have a deal.

OT: My utopia...well my utopia involves a universe where the laws of physics makes space travel a whole lot easier pretty much. From then on, it's pretty much up to the hope that every lifeform is so confused with the other everyone just goes "fuck it, we have nothing to fight for the universe is damn near infinite and we can go anyway. PEACE OUT BITCHES" and there were no stupid galactic wars.

Now galactic racing though...

A world that isn't afraid to advance.

I don't get frustrated per se because I'm fairly laid back, but it is a bit off putting that we waste so much money on controlling and squabbling over available resources when that money could have gotten us to a point where we can move past our dependence on them. We should be living with abundant clean energy, putting colonies outside our biosphere and working on the issue of human mortality, but instead we're fighting over convenient contaminants that only hurt us in the end.

Seriously, we could solve a lot of major issues with the U.S military budget.

Green limitless energy

Option for eternal youth until you die of old age (not immortality).

A stable population (a lot less than there is now).

White architecture complimented by avenues of trees and plants, maintained by robots (a balance between elegance and the organic).

A replicator that would make anything from food, televisions, clothes to video games. Thus removing the need for a currency system, allowing people to spend their time advancing humanity.

Bhuddism would be the dominant religion Christianity and Islam would have been labelled failures.

Faster than light travel. And planet terraforming.

Humans would have evolved beyond guns, all wars and conflicts would be resolved via strength based weapons and martial arts, except for heavy ordnance weapons.

Religion would not be seen as an acceptable excuse to instigate any form of violence.

No one would be ugly some people may be plain but no one is unpleasant to look at.

Something like this world, except everyone dies around age 30-35 and has a good enough healing factor to regen limbs and bones overnight (so that broken bones can be set-up properly and regrow correctly into place) and regen from mortal wounds within 10 seconds.

50 different magic spells will be available with more being added if they're deemed sufficiently useful or amusing.

Monthly gladiatorial fights to the death and public duels become common forms of entertainment.

Also, 500 different monsters of greatly varying size and physiology can be found throughout the world and will respawn shortly if killed.

Basically, turn the world into an endless action-RPG with 10,000X more options due to not being limited by game mechanics.

Know what. After thinking about it I think Star Trek TNG era basicly nailed it for me. Have the technology to do whatever the hell you want and the human race has reached the point where everyone works and contributes to society simply to help advance the species.

This is all pre Dominion war of cause because as exciting as it was to watch on TV that war looks like it would be a bit of a drag to live through.

And now I think about it there would be a small chance that Earth could be assimilated by the Borg but I guess it would keep me on my toes.

Ive never liked the idea of a "utopia" I have a problem with perfection. I love imperfection and danger. Utopias tend to be an ideal society but ideal isnt for me. I like to earn things, if everything I ever wanted was handed to me on a plate (which is the premise of this thread) then what would be the point. Why should I continue existing. I have nothing to achieve, nothing to aspire to. Being sat around all day doesnt interest me

films like demolition man or the truman show make you realise that a "perfect" world is anything but

I like the earth perhaps if the government didnt baby us as much it would be nicer but yeah its not too bad. You work hard and you reap the rewards, theres always some element of hope and aspiration that drives you to continually improve and theres enough imperfection, danger and uncertainty to keep you on your toes

And the reward for most boring response goes to me

I've never played Mass Effect, but when I read about the Geth I realised they came pretty close to what I think is one of the better ideal societies, IMO.

"As all geth are networked to each other, they may communicate their exact thoughts and ideas at the speed of light. Geth cannot and do not wish to hide their thoughts, even those that do not follow the norm, with their reasoning for differing thoughts being apparent. The geth are able to communicate their thoughts flawlessly without any fear of misinterpretation. Geth have no government or leaders; when a matter must be decided upon, the geth communicate all viewpoints of a situation and a consensus is made, the decision being whatever benefits the geth as a whole the greatest. The geth use FTL communications to "build a consensus," a completely Consensus Democratic method in which every geth program makes a choice on any matter."

Humans impose consensus; the Geth build consensus.

I just want a place where there's no petty in-fighting over menial/non-existent things, where everyone's working together for the better of mankind. Cheesy, right?

Would be fantastic and the technological advances would be astounding... and space travel/colonisation!

Unity between individual, population, and whole, where every brain is connected to, but still undeniably separate from each other, where you can view the world from anothers eye quite easily, where you can see the world through their eyes, experience their pain, and see them as YOURSELF, rather than a stranger. From there, have secrecy and shame removed, and provide easy, cheap, and effective methods of self-improvement. From there, locate a infinite energy source, then figure out how to produce matter effectively, with minimum to zero cost. Then see what happens, and hope that the Hivemind doesn't split up.

I would rather not have an utopia.

Of course I would like to get rid of alot of problems that plague people on a day to day basis. A way to reduce pollution, violence, starvation and all that would be nice, but in the basis of still living as human beings. Too many utopias turn into dystopias.

No anarchy and no authoritarian tyranny. Just a well run and humane society.

Ever watch Angel? Lorne's homeworld of Pylea,
though not exactly a Utopia it is certainly my first choice of places to live.

Nothing but Heroes and Monsters roaming the countryside, slaying and feasting!
Let's not forget the dancing. Dancing for joy, dancing for Honour!

To me, that's practically paradise.

That wasn't necessarily the point of the thread. The point was more along the lines that I keep hearing how awful society is without any constructive suggestions. So it's more of a "if you don't like it, build your own." If that makes sense. If your idea of a perfect society is for rewards to be based on ability instead of projected ability and deflected responsibility like ours is, that sounds pretty good. If you could unite humanity, what would you do? Build obelisks? Obelisks are cool :)

The distopia from Lois Lowry's "The Giver". Emotions would be suppressed, and everyone's lives would be heavily regulated, from what the people ate, to what their jobs were. However, the heads controlling the society would be both benevolent and competent, and always doing what is best for the community. No one would know what they are missing out on in our world, so they would live out their entire lives feeling "content" and never knowing or wondering if something better exists beyond their controlled lives.

Movie version. I haven't read the book. Is it significantly different?
