Yes games desensitize people of death. I have lost several family members and had no emotional effects pop up, or maybe I'm just a sociopath...
Also FPS dicks were dicks before they played those games.
Exactly this.

I don't really have anything else to say as it would be copying what I quoted.

I thought of this while hearing two of my friends (Sorry, my two friends)discussing the various ways each would cause bodily harm to the other.
I suppose there are politicians who support war and the death penalty and such, but what happens when you grow up on violent games? When death is part of your daily life (Real or not) do you stop caring?

And is this why FPS junkies are such dicks?
And let me guess your the sincere kind poet who plays rpgs who could do no wrong.

Your over generlising to an EXTREME! and you have poor choice if your friends with some of the crazyiest people the way you described them.

Weeeeeeell, I'm working as a paramedic atm so if videogames made me stop caring about death hurray! But I doubt it though, I think I just don't care independently of games.

Quite possibly it desensitizes them talking about it. In video game concept terms, that is.

And as long as they don't act upon it - which 20 years of widespread violent video game availability says they don't - who cares?

No. Anyone who compares death in games to real death is an idiot.

No virtual or described death will ever cause the same reaction as a real one.

I say no. There is a massive difference between a dead body in fallout3 (most graphic game with dead bodies I can think of) and real life. The blood, the smell that permeates the air, the sights of a neck ******************* ************************ *********************** *********************** *********************** *********************** *********************** ********************************************************. Even I can not stomach to put my thoughts into words.

The difference between real life and games is just too great.

I'm not a dick! And no - I mean, I play tons of violent games - but I hate the sight of blood, and anything beyond the most slapstick violence makes me wince. I'm not at all desensitised to it, but that doesn't mean I'm incapable of talking about violence in a non-serious way, just that I'm aware I'm talking about a fiction, not a reality. There's a difference between joking about cutting someone up with a chainsaw and feeding their component parts to their cat and actually threatening to do that.
