Interplay (original makers of fallout) + funding
Black Isle made Fallout. Interplay was the publisher. Black Isle folded as a company a long time ago and most of the notable people in the studio went on to create Obsidian, a company known for a long history of making games that are both deeply flawed (technically and mechanically) yet full of good ideas.

Baldur's Gate was built by Bioware on the Infinity Engine which was also created by Bioware. Icewind Dale was created by Black Isle (the remnants of which would become Obsidian) using Bioware's Infinity Engine. Neverwinter Nights 2 was made by Obsidian using Bioware's Aurora engine.

Baldur's Gate has nothing to do with Black Isle I suppose is what I'm getting at here.
Black Isle and Interplay were the publishers actually, thus the flashy old lightning show logo they had at the beginning of BG Linky, but I know the guys at Obsidian had little to nothing to do with the development of Baldur's Gate itself, thus why I said 'loosely'. And yet just being in vague proximity to one another produced the legendary Baldur's Gate, just imagine what'd happen if they actually went full 50/50 on a product?

Hopefully with Obsidian doing the writing and story while Bioware handles the other stuff... because frankly the other way around would just be silly.

Bethesda + Valve. Imagine Fallout 3 if it was programmed by people who could actually program.

I agree that there is a loose connection between the two that eventually bore fruit in the form of Planescape Torment (Uses Bioware's Infinity Engine) and Icewind Dale (same). However, the two games Black Isle is best known for (Fallout 1 and 2) were both made before Bioware released Baldur's Gate. Black Isle is credited with assistance on the Baldur's Gate franchise, but I have thus far been unable to find precisely what this assistance might entail.

But, as I said, if you want to make associations between the two companies (Obsidian and Bioware), you have several to choose from where the connection is clear, including: Planescape Torment (Made by Black Isle using Bioware tech), Icewind Dale (same) and Icewind Dale 2 (same). The single best example is Neverwinter Nights 2, made by Obsidian using Bioware Tech as part of a franchise started by Bioware.

I would, however, like to see some collaboration where the moments of brilliance in an Obsidian title are not utterly lost in various technical and mechanical flaws. Every game Obsidian has produced has suffered this fate: Neverwinter Nights 2 (A better game in many respects than it's predecessor), Alpha Protocol (a game that fulfills the promise of choice while being saddled with a mechanical system that was archaic when Deus Ex used it), Fallout: New Vegas (represents an enormous improvement in story and character while suffering from crippling bugs many of which the community was so quick to resolve that it calls into question just how much QA work was done on the game), and Knights of the Old Republic 2 (similar to others but mired with technical bugs and half finished plot pieces).

DICE+Mojang.

You play on a massive, randomly generated map,in which you can build your own defence, all while duking it out 32vs32 players with guns, tanks and aircrafts.

Just imagine the possibilities! You're on a team that's digging couple tunnels to get an escape route, when all the sudden,a 5 man enemy strike team falls from above.
Or,a big castle with AA guns on top.
Gentlemen,I believe I have just imagined a game that would waste billions of manhours, and possibly cause the downfall of western civilization.

There is so much fail in this thread...

Bioware and Obsidian? Am I the only one who remembers Alpha Protocol? Obsidian made its name by leeching off of Bioware, and still managed to fuck their own asses.
Actually... Alpha Protocol is the WORST example of Obsidian ripping off Bioware, because:

a) It wasn't a sequel to a Bioware game like KotOR II (still great game though) and NWN2.

b) Alpha Protocol is not ripping Bioware at all. It's just third perspective, and have cover system like EVERY SINGLE title involving shooting these days. That's all, there's nothing from Mass Effect here, except maybe from dialog wheel, which was made different as well. If it rips off anything, it's Deus Ex in terms of gameplay mechanics, and I prefer the word 'inspire' rather than 'rip-off' here.

c) Lately (flame shield up!) it's Bioware who's taking notes from Alpha Protocol. What, you don't believe me? Then look at Dragon Age II. Dialog pie - you can clearly tell, that it's not very ME-like pie. Instead, we usually have nice, sarcastic/funny and aggressive option + investigate, and a bonus option on specific occasion. That's pretty much AP's dialog system minus timer (professional - nice, suave - sarcastic/funny, aggressive - well... aggressive). Friend-rival system, that gives you a different bonus from your companions as well as their possible help/betrayal at some point (btw, totally better than approve/disapprove system). Who did that first? Yep, AP. Choices that actually matter in-game? Finally here (although it's still a little bit illusionary, but at least now they try unlike their older games and ME 1/2 so far), after AP showed the world that it can be done.

So yeah. My perfect combo would be Obsidian + Bioware as well. They would work together to bring an interesting story, then Obsidian makes a properly working choice system and throws up a lot of good ideas, while Bioware polishes the game, so it looks awesome and has less bugs, which is about the only thing that Obsidian lacks.

From other interesting pairings... How about Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain) + Team Bondi (L.A. Noire)? We haven't seen the final result of the Australian's work, but imagine that sweet, sweet graphic from HR combined with those facial animations. And I'm sure they could come up with some really good detective story/murder mystery together.

Bioware + Origin Systems. Ok, really, I just want to see Bioware remake the Ultima series.

Notch + Sid Meier present: Minevilization.
Civilization already does the random world generation minecract does, it's just not in an explorable 3d world. So if you're going to go that route you may as well combine Civilization with The Elder Scrolls.

Still close to my own pick though, which would be Civilization: Total War!

...I would never leave the house.
I was thinking more along the lines of you dig up resources to make a house, then you build a mine, get more and more resources, build a city, and maintain it for all your subjects. More like Minecraft-Sim City.

Rockstar and BioWare would be real interesting!
They both specialize in big open worlds with story focus, but in very different ways. I'd easily buy it!

Or Pandemic + Lucasarts so we can FINALLY get Battlefront 3!!

Nitendo and Apple. Yeah, apple isnt a game company, but they have such an emphasis on good hardware that they would be able to bring nintendo back to the big leagues with their games
Bleh. No thanks. In my experience, Nintendo products are better engineered than apple ones.

Apple is great if you want style... But they always seem to sacrifice something practical in the design.
dude...are you kidding? apple products have great engineering. the wii on the other hand...

but yeah, apple has great engineering

Bethesda - The Elder Scrolls is an awesome series and Fallout 3 is fucking great!
Obsidian - New Vegas was pretty sweet and Alpha Protocol was even better! Top it off with KOTOR II.

Bethesda + Obsidian = ?????

Having them both as developers and I think the situation is win-win.

I just want Team Silent to reassemble and go back to developing Silent Hill.... is that really too much to ask?

If I want to form a team it would be Hideo Kojima and Ubisoft Montreal. Maybe Splinter Cell's awesomeness could get a half decent story in it. Also, Snake could make cameo appearances throughout so you would have the vocal awesomeness of David Hayter and Michael Ironside combined.
