Destiny- does it exist?

I've been wondering about fate, destiny, whatever you want to call it...

Does it exist? Is it true that our lives are predetermined? If so, then no matter what we do, nothing will be different from what is supposed to happen. If it doesn't exist, then what we do determines the fate of others, right? So here's what my friends said:

The Yu-gi-oh guy who argues with the Naruto guy: Fate exists, but flows like a river, you can determine it's flow. (My comment: doesn't that contradict the point of there being such thing as destiny?)\

The Naruto Guy: I don't care.

The Naruto Guy's twin brother: It probably doesn't exist, we choose our own life. (this is the guy I agree with the most)

The Girl: Maybe, maybe not. (That was unhelpful)

Me: It probably does, so what we do doesn't matter, but I hope that there is no such thing as destiny, or fate, whatever you want to call it.

So what do you guys think?

Huh.. what is a Naruto-Guy...? What has that to do with anything?

Answer: Maybe, but it is not our concern, since no machine (brains, computer) can know and extrapolate the neccessary data. And maybe there are subatomic processes which can have more than one clear outcome. If not, the whole universe was predestined the way it will be just one moment after it began.

Umm..... quantum-physics... yay?

No it doesn't

If there was such a thing, you could contradict it by knowing it, and then making different choices.

To have some vague semblance of the scientific, everything is technically predetermined at the big bang to occur as it has and will because it is a domino effect performed by the distribution of energy and matter of the universe.
Is there some sort of divine plan? That's a matter of belief; no one can prove yes or no.

Why not make a survey of people's beliefs on the matter, rather than attempting to determine an absolute?

Born to greatness is a lie
Fate was invented by cowards.
Destiny, becoming what we want ourselves to be, is something that must be worked towards.
Only we set how far we will go.

I believe that we have choices in our actual actions, but everything that happens as a result of those actions is set to happen once we make that choice.

We can choose the path we take, but we can't pave a whole new road.

Actually if there was destiny, you couldn't counter it in any way, because everything would be predetermined.

Heres a better question if it did exist is it our place to understand why or how and if not who cares life goes the way it goes, destiny may exist but i dont think it would be one path but many branching off from one another caused by our actions. but hey i don't care its beyond our understanding and we have no way to find out so this question is Null.

I believe in Fate. I dislike it and despise its existence, but I still believe in it.

One side of me wants to say no there is no destiny, but another side of me examines how things always seem to work out and says maybe there is destiny, overall I'm pretty sure that we will never know one way or the other so we should just enjoy our lives.

There is no fate but what me make. The Future has not been written yet.

Now, if you'll excuse me... *flies into the heavens with a steam powered flying train*

There is no cosmic being. There is no heaven and hell; there is no good and evil; there is no divine intervention. Life and reality are coincidental. Earth is a cosmic accident. Deep-thinking philosophy is nothing more than the byproduct of highly advanced brains and intelligence.

In short, no.
