Destroy all Humans was great, not a lot of depth and maybe I wouldn't like it now I'm all grown up but it was a fun easy to get into experience.
Mercenaries 2 is a genuinely good game. I can understand people liking 1 way more and being disappointed by 2, but that game was super fun and had co-op, and flying that was worth a damn.Squilookle said:Oh man, imagine what they could do if they made a Mercenaries 2.Elfgore said:Bruh, don't put the idea of Mercenaries 2 playable and easy to obtain on modern PCs in my head, it's dangerous.Squilookle said:If this means it's coming to PC, and also means that other Pandemic console classics like Mercenaries will come to PC too, then this is indeed a good thing.
Pity they never did. Never happened. Just like those Matrix sequels that never got made.
In that one, crouching made your aim worse. Worse.Saelune said:Mercenaries 2 is a genuinely good game. I wish they would make a new Mercenaries that combined the best parts of both, but EA sucks.
The game was super fun to play, especially with a friend. We need to not forget the value of fun in games.Squilookle said:In that one, crouching made your aim worse. I mean how in the hell does someone F$%^ that up? I get that EA rushed it out and everything but they did that with The Saboteur as well and that turned out a damn sight better than M2. Props to Chris Tilton for producing another fantastic soundtrack, but I mean.. what the hell happened to this game? Everything looked like it was made of plastic- especially the people. And why was there QTE's stuffed in absolutely everywhere? I get that they were the flavour of the month and that Just Cause 2 fell under their curse as well, but when the first game worked perfectly fine without it why put that crap in?
And they went waaay too all-in with the destruction. Difficulty up ahead? Just drive a tank through it or level it with an airstrike every. Damn. Time. At least in the first one those signal jammers constantly forced you to mix it up a bit, and the experience was all the better for it. Explosions are great and all, but they should be the icing on the gameplay cake... not the plate.
And where was the war? The streets were squeaky clean, all the buildings looked as good as you'd expect from a peaceful South American country, and that feel of a nation divided by conflict just wasn't there at all. It's like someone had left their GI Joe vehicles on their sister's tropical Barbie playset.
I did like that we got to see the Mercs all together (though nowhere near enough), but Fiona... what did they do to Fiona!?

This is how she originally looked. A Lieutenant in the Navy, an ex-ASIS operative, an experienced agent runner. She was always professional, on task, on time.

Like what the shit? Does a professional, no-nonsense female character not sell enough game copies or something? Because that's the only reason I can think of for them turning her into a pathetic Abby Sciuto tryhard.

Yeah, no. Just no.
Come to think of it, Mercs 2 seems to think all female characters needed a bit of 'sexing up' Let's look at this bonus outfit for Jennifer Mui in 2:

Now, I could picture someone in a cleavage flaunting catsuit like that in an Arkham game perhaps, where 4 inch heels are probably no problem at all for Catwoman, but in Mercenaries!? The series with refugees, chemical warfare, war correspondents and a PMC with a very careful eye on its public image? The Mui from the first game wouldn't be caught dead in that shit. She's not a bloody cosplayer down at the local paintball arena, she's a Soldier of Fortune! You didn't see Leonardo DiCaprio wearing body-hugging latex in Blood Diamond did you?
Mui didn't get a hard-earned spot on 'female game characters that don't have to use sex to get the job done' lists by flopping her boobs around like so many others tend to do.[footnote]https://www.thegamereviews.com/article-1530-10-video-game-women-who-dont-use-sex-to-sell.html[/footnote] She was just another professional among professionals, doing a job and doing it well. Something the original game understood. One of many things the sequel had no clue about.
Pretty much the only benefit Mercs 2 had was swimming. Apart from that, the first was better in absolutely every single respect, save for appearing on PC.
Which really should happen. Like, yesterday.
I'll admit I never played it in co-op. Magical things tend to happen in co-op in the most unlikeliest of games, so perhaps that's where all the fun was hiding.Saelune said:The game was super fun to play, especially with a friend. We need to not forget the value of fun in games.
The best part of Mercenaries 2 was the trailer. Shame, but it was a really good trailer though.Squilookle said:In that one, crouching made your aim worse.
