And now I want to play it again. (For the fifth time.)
It's one of the Rules of the Internet.

Mention Deus Ex, someone will reinstall it.

[small]Come to think of it I currently have it installed too...[/small]
Yeah, but that's the saying for the original (which I always have installed). And we can't claim it's a universal truth for the series itself because, well...

Funny thing is, I kinda want to play that one.

Again. I did try it once, but I don't think I really gave it a fair shot. I wonder if I can still *ahem*obtain*cough*it*achoo*somewhere*cough*.

Huh? The only references to the first game I remember seeing were the Tongs and that end sequence. Did I miss some things?
There were like one or two emails that mention Everett and some one else in the Illuminati who I can't remember, but yeah other than that I've got no clue what he is talking about. I don't even remember Tong being mentioned and I tried to look through every email I could find. Hell if anything I was surprised at just how little they referenced the first game.

I... don't know what that means. There are two major plot-points in Human Revolution , and 2 other less major ones, which link in directly with the original game.

That's generally not something you bother working on if you're doing a full-on retcon reboot. (And by 'retcon' I mean altering established information, not just adding stuff that's not been previously mentioned.)

It's a reboot in the sense that it's bringing back an old IP, in-part for a new generation, and severing itself slightly by not including previous characters or continuing past events. As he says in that quote which you seem to think argues otherwise.

What reality am I meant to be forgetting, exactly?
It's like comparing The C&C Tiberium universe to Red Alert and vice versa. They have the same roots but not the same story/cannon. The DX1 as we know it died at the end of IW, there isn't more they could add-on and where could have they gone after this "prequel"?DX1 remake?.

The remix of UNATCO theme (which I thought was pretty good) and the reference to the keycode to the Armoury on liberty island in DX1 "0451" at the beginning. The several tunes from DX1 can be heard on the radio.

just to name a few.

He makes a very brief appearance and his father is Tong Si Hung who plays a part in several story missions.
He is seen escaping on the boat The Tracer when you set off the bomb in the shipyard in Hengsha

Yeah, except they do have the same canon, and their stories are very much interlinked, only indirectly (i.e. HR doesn't set DX directly in motion, but it looks at the beginnings of a number factors which will come to play a part in DX). Maybe they'll go nowhere with it and not make another game, maybe they will reboot the canon with the next one - 'the next one' has nothing to do with the current one, which is a canonical piece of the DX universe.

And the keycode goes back to System Shock.

1.) Not too sure about that they all seem moot when you can't see what happens after the game.

2.) I think the meeting takes place shortly after the end of Human Revolution.

3.) The closest thing is missing link and that only opens more plot holes. (If that happened to me I would mention it)

4.) This would have been a great time to add the post ending look at the world.

The only thing I didn't like about HR were the boss battles, the endings were just fine and everything is explained ingame.

1) You can say that whatever choice you make in the end makes some difference but not a huge one, since whatever happens doesn't change the fact that Bob Page will continue what the illuminati started.

2) I guess that Bob recruits Megan after the events of HR.

3) I believe that the "canon" ending of HR is the one where Jensen sinks Panacea or whateverthenamewas and that's why he is not involved with the original Deus Ex.

4) Why not?

I wasn't so disappointed with Deus Ex HR ending as I was with ME3, because it seemed logical, and it didn't bring up any new information, it gave you a choice, without any plot twists or tricks, it was a normal, not very original/interesting ending.
Me3 did the exact opposite, hence being similar, it forced you to meet a new divine entity who is in charge, gives some very stupid arguments trying to imply killing all life once in a while is a good thing, also contradicts previous story (Me1 rendered moot in one sentence) and you see a cutscene of three different colors where is about 10% difference from one another, + like a cherry on top, it shows that your team is now trapped at some tropical planet looking at sunset, it was cheesy and stupid, AND after credits you see the most "WHAT THE F, WHY?!" "secret ending" of them all, RLY?

The best ending was the ending fof Arx Fatalis, now that's an ending, everything was in count, quests you did, side quests you did, people you've met, everything, I will recommend that game for everyone, if you are into details you will love that game. And don't just watch the ending, it's pointless if you don't know the world and story around, play the game

Yea, it a prequel however it's also a reboot. Jean-François Dugas said "it's kinda of a reboot" [http://www.vg247.com/2011/02/21/vive-la-revolution-jf-dugas-on-rebooting-deus-ex/] in a E3 interview. The game is so awasome that people forget this or that I'm a massive nerd on this.
I still don't think its a "wipe everything over and start again" reboot, it seemed distant enough from the original to fit in

[quote/]Who knows? who cares? It was meant to pander to the old skool fans. The references are so blatant that it makes me sad to be honest.
well I care in that if your going to throw somthing in I'd like it to make sense..and judging by what people have said I guess it does...I havnt played the original so aside from the theme song thing at the end I saw no references

Well, he lives on. perhaps he's still the protagonist for DXHR2 (if there's one).he only dies in one ending.
I wonder if they are going to make another Deus Ex game (mabye set after invisable war?) eather way I doubt it would involve jensen

1) Nope, your choices don't really matter, which is, I believe, intentional. As a prequel, it can't contradict Deus Ex 1, and it also goes to show that despite Adam's immense power, he still can't halt the advances in technology and the subsequent hell on earth.

2) Bob Page recruited Megan to help with spoileriffic stuff regarding the first Deus Ex. This took place after Adam's decision.

3) I would say I'm okay with it in this case. Don't know why, though.

4) Better than just white text on black background.

And again, you say words without saying anything. The point was just that it's a tradition among the Looking Glass/Ion Storm alumni. BioShock had it too.

It's just part of an in-joke; most series fans probably wouldn't have even noticed.

It won't be set after IW. They set it before the original in the first place so as to help keep it grounded.
