I came in here to shout LOL THAT'S OLD NEWS! But if it's the full version and note beta then damn. But I don't think it's a great catastrophe since it's just a few days before the release. Quite the contrary, I think when people see how awesome the game is they will be convinced it's worth shelling out the money to support the developers (not that I would know anything about the beta leak, I heard if from a friend of mine.)

They've already Region Locked it. Not that it helps much...
You sure? According to today's news, the PC region lock on UK versions of the game will not be implemented after all. (Source: http://www.gamona.de/games/deus-ex-human-revolution,region-lock-bei-uk-version-wieder-entfernt:news,1975209.html )

Well, seeing as I've already preordered it AND will move to a new apartment with better broadband connection in just a few days, I think I can hold out for a while. Who needs piracy when the legal option is available?

this was always going to happen. the fact is it's not the fact people can't wait to play the game, it's just that they don't want to pay for it.

weather it was leaked a week before release or a week after it was always going to happen

It's scary you say that with the eyes, also a lot of stores leak games too, a mom and pop shop in my town used to leak the pokemon games like a week early. But as long as they are not pirating it it's not the worse that can happen.
My avatar was surprisingly appropriate for that post, wasn't it? I hadn't thought of that. lol

What you describe is "breaking a street date," as opposed to straight up "leaking." The former means that a store puts the game on shelves early, which is a pain in the ass but not really a huge problem. The latter is when the source code for something starts turning up online, as we saw with Half-Life 2 and several other major titles in recent years. That is the kind of activity I was referring to. =)

The PC version is just a CloneDVD and is unplayable right now, probably thanks to the way Steam works (DVD's are missing about 10MB of critical files that are downloaded from the Steam servers)

I think the beta has tided me over nicely for the release of the actual game.

Shame about this really though.

I guess I'm referring to breaking street date then haha (getting pokemon early is awesome, same with soul calibur 4), and yeah I would agree with you if my source code for a project I'm working on (I'm a dev in training at college :D ) was leaked online I would be super pissed. But mostly these news stories refer to a broken street date and cracked DRM(which the cracked part is bad...). Seeing how the game went gold a month ago and is coming out next Tuesday.

Also your prinny avatar rules, I can't wait for disgaea 4.

What does it matter? If it's a good game, people will pay for it. Those that won't, would never have, so nothing is lost.

As a developer, I'm all for kicking the everliving shit out of people that leak our work, then lighting them on fire. Seriously, grow the Hell up.
I may not be a developer, but I share a similar sentiment towards these people, especially when it comes to leaking masterpieces like this.

Fail.
If you'll look at the link (further down in the article) to the 'Rock Paper Shotgun' forum thread on the topic, you'll see that the very first post has been updated by one of the mods, stating that Square Enix has decided not to implement the region lock after the collective gaming community seemed ready and willing to shove burning paddles up the asses of everyone working at the company.

Why spread this around?

Isn't that kinda shitty to the developers?

And people wonder why they've all become so console-centric. Ridiculous.

EDIT: Sure, it gets cracked on console too but most console users don't know how to use or acquire pirated stuff.

This is more in the name of chaos, anarchy has no governing force, that's the only ideal it really requires. Sorry, I just felt compelled to type that.

I think that so long as companies stop challenging pirates with DRM they'll get less shit, really.
