Why spread this around?

Isn't that kinda shitty to the developers?

And people wonder why they've all become so console-centric. Ridiculous.
The Irony is it's leaked for the consoles too and it's only the CONSOLE version that is working because of Steamworks!

Yeah but most console users don't have a clue how to use pirated copies of things.

Nothing new. Every console release get's leaked. I'm yet to see one that wasn't really. I'm actually surprised it came that late, guess there was some delay in shipping and the guys at stores couldn't get their hands on it anytime earlier.

"yeah pirate!!! in the name of anarchy! durr huur!!!"

*sigh* honestly I dont understand it
What's there to understand? People are greedy, like to keep their money. Piracy gets them free shit. Tadaa.

Huh. Well,.... GG, DRM?
Except that it, y'know, doesn't really have any awful, draconian DRM measures. Goes to show that game piracy really isn't about fighting the good fight, it's just about people wanting free shit.

This is more in the name of chaos, anarchy has no governing force, that's the only ideal it really requires. Sorry, I just felt compelled to type that.

I think that so long as companies stop challenging pirates with DRM they'll get less shit, really.
thats the funny thing, anarchy isnt just about "no government! do what you want!" wich makes it even more funny/stupid when certain idiots are like

"yeah! riot! smash shit! steal! in the name of anarchy!! cuz the governments opressing us man!!!" as in I just want to be a dick and do what ever I want

DRM or not think people will always priate when/if they can...its just greed and apathy

EDIT: Sure, it gets cracked on console too but most console users don't know how to use or acquire pirated stuff.
I beg to differ. I bet a great deal of them know how they could acquire pirated games and just as many figure the 'how to use' is out there on the internet somewhere (and it is. many somewheres, actually). Let's not pretend console gamers are ignorant or stupid, it does no one any favours (I'm guessing you're going for ignorance here).

If a majority of consoles aren't being chipped or softmodded it's because their owners are choosing not to do so for a variety of reasons, be it a moral stance against piracy or feeling the risk of having their console banned from online usage isn't worth it. For most of the console gamers I know it's overwhelmingly the latter reason.

I've had dozens of people over the years ask me about console modding over the years (the downside of having a techhead rep) and most of them have seemed real eager to learn about it until I bring up the risk of detection and online bans. That does seem to cool their ardor somewhat... and by 'somewhat' I mean they go from "yeah, tell me more" to "oh... fuck that then."

One thing that's always amused me is the number of otherwise upstanding/law abiding people who've asked me about pirating stuff over the years including, I fucking kid you not, several lawyers, one of whom is an IP lawyer... and I don't think burning him off a couple of hard to find CDs would've been case research.

I don't get to play it until the 26th, fucking stupid Euro release dates. At least USA people get it on the 23rd. Well anyway, this just proves that DRM is useless.
No it doesn't. About 25% of people pirated the Humble Indie Bundle, and the creator of World of Goo said that the game had a piracy rate near 90%. Intrusive DRM is annoying, but it is not useless.
Here's the thing, plenty of people still buy the game.

Counting piracy as "sales lost" is absolutely backwards thinking, treat your paying customers as paying customers.

2D BOY agrees with you. They do not consider their pirated copies to be lost sales, and think DRM is a waste of time and money. They have also re-analyzed their original '90%' figure and have concluded the piracy rate to be 82% or lower. Of course, the piracy rate for world of goo was still rather high, but it's not 90%.

I have it pre-ordered, and I'm patient enough to wait to play it. Regardless, I don't pirate games. Ever. I tried once to pirate a game that I'd tried for years to get legitimately without finding it, but then I found it on ebay so there goes that exception.

Anyway, it's unfortunate for the developers. I would have to have something I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours working on taken out of my hands. The people playing it now are probably getting a (marginally) lesser version and aren't supporting the people that put it together, which doesn't bode well for the whole 'supporting innovation' thing. Then again, no DRM is an improvement.

For the record, I find it humorous that it's the console version that got pirated first. So much for PC being the the biggest piracy risk, eh?

Nah I'm just going on personal experience. Every PC gamer I know knows how to pirate, and not one of my XBOX buddies knows how to (including me)

I already got mine through Amazon, I should get it Tuesday. So doesn't effect me too much. Sadly, now the publisher's will probably crack down even further now.
