Question from someone who hasn't played it:

How's the combat? What game(s) would you compare it to?

One of the things that soured me on HR was that while it made for a middling stealth game, doing a straight up combat run was woeful.

Oh, and does it make you traipse back and forth across mission hubs if you're doing side quests?
clocked in probably 8 hours thus far, and I'm going a 95% stealth/non-lethal route (sometimes when shit hits the fan, I'll shoot to kill)

the stealth gameplay is...different, YMMV, I've gotten used to it, and this could be nostalgic glasses talking, but I think I prefer Deus ex: HR's handle on stealth, sometimes I find myself moving to the wrong spot or going over/not going over a wall when I did/didn't mean to.

(pro tip: do not quicksave when you're hiding by a wall, you have to hit space after the game quickloads your quicksave and it registers you htiting the space in game, so you'll vault over a wall or whatever you saved by, annoying as hell)

the shooting aspect of it seems to be slightly above average, and it could be because I didn't invest many points into health/armor thus far, but when shit goes down because a flying robot saw me, I'm dropping like a sack of potatoes before I even realize what's happening.

all that said, I think the exploration/different ways to handle a quest aspect is 5x better than it was in human revolution, I'm having a ton of fun finding shit/different routes around prague and in missions.

I'm fairly happy with the game, though I think it could have used a few more large hostile places filled with turrets and robots. The most threatening enemies are heavily aug-ed dudes who can be done in with a punch anyway. The lack of the old exotic weaponry is a bit sad, with only your family of different bullet shooters and a grenade launcher I never found.

The ending wasn't so much bad than it was... abrupt. There's no stupid button pushing followed by stock footage monologues or any Shymalan twists. It just stops.

While I found the sidequests pretty strong, the main plotline seems to be a bit eh. It feels like one big sidestory than the next tale in the saga.

My biggest problem with MD is how easy it is. I started to just shoot everything to get any challenge because stealth was cake walk. Especially if you get the remote hack ability early one. With that you can shut down cameras, turrets, robots/drones, tripwires far away. It breaks stealth basically.

Has anyone noticed any mission bugs yet? I'm playing through HR: Director's Cut now and the Motherly Ties side mission is caput for me, even after completing all objectives.

Apparently if an alert is sounded in the police station at all before you start the quest, a vital NPC encounter will be nullified, and an end-quest convo option will be missing which forces you to reload a save. It's just a side quest, but still it's frustrating that something like that was never patched.
I encountered only one minor bug. In one side mission I had to break couple guys out of jail and escort them to safety. I decided to do it guns blazing and the leader of the guys got stuck behind a cover during one gunfight with the police. I couldn't get him to move until I took a cardboard box and threw it at him, then he started to move again.

Did you lol? I would have, but only because it actually worked.

So after playing almost entirely stealth, I got to a point in the game where my 80's action star morality kicked in and it was clear that I needed to kill some motherfuckers. I turned straight lethal and boy does it feel good. I'm like a cybernetic John McClane.

I'd have felt like, narratively, we were being built up to end the second act, and then the game just stops.
Yeah it felt like their should have been at least one more overarching mission area in which we went after whoever was pulling the strings in this game's story. In the end it fell flat and made the entire game feel more like an episode of a TV series rather than a contained game with a large and engaging story. HRs story just felt bigger and more complete, more worthy of a game that gets a new release every three of four years. The story in MD felt like something you would get from an episode of one of Tell Tale's games. A shame really because the game was pretty damn good in most respects. I actually hated the sticky cover control as it made rapid movement in tight situations clunky bordering on annoying and the combat was fine on a one to one level but once you moved in to situations that required rapid movement from one bad guy to another in a tight and controlled manner it really shows how poor the cut away attacks scenes are.

What I loved the most was the city of Prague, everywhere you looked you saw something new and interesting, a map the fraction of the size of something like GTA5s but so much more to look at and engage with, I really liked it.

Yeah. I just thought to try something. I was mostly using quick save and there's only one slot for that and I had already used it before I realized he was stuck. I didn't remember when was my last save. Had to try something and I was surprised it worked.

Finished the game a couple of days ago and...the game is awesome! For me the only dissapointing thing was the story. Its not a bad story but honestly i was expecting more depth from it i guess. Thats my only complaint so far. Other than that it was a blast to play =)

WHOO-HOO!!!!!

Finally beat this fucker. 52 hours of gaming bliss. I absolutely love this game.

The gameplay kept me engaged from beginning to end and the evolution of my gameplay style was an organic adjustment that kept pace with developement of the narrative and story. Kudos to these devs. The visual design was also top notch. I also love the visual evolution of Prague as it kept pace thematically with the story.

The story, while a bit more local in scope than the first game and even Human Revolution was very well executed, as were the characters. Even better is that I'm now chomping at the bit for what's coming next. The intrigue has completely drawn me in.

Very fulfilling game here folks. Treat yourselves if you haven't already.

Good show Eidos Montreal. Good fucking show.
