I'm on my second playthrough. So this is my no kill one.
I suggest you try that next time so you have a better feel for the game and you know more what to expect from guards and such.

One word... "DOCKS".

The only time a massacre existed.

Oh and the prologue... they stood no chance.

I'm simply playing as I feel. Most people I'm not killing simply because it's not necessary
but when those bastards ambushed me and that hacker in the Court Gardens I happily gave a 'fuck you' right back to them.
I actually thought it was about time we got an ambush or rappelling or crash in scene... and I was glad we did, not so glad that suddenly they had an entire army there without my knowing as I was just expecting a squad based on the cutscene... I'm surprised they didn't throw in a boxguard robot as well (the giant ones).

The Docks was a massacre because not of the human trafficking BUT because of their joy in it.

How many are keeping to the 'no kill' play through?
No Kills, No Alarms, on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty setting.

JC would be so proud of me.

P.S. I'm about 12~14 hours in.

I'm hoping to get it next week after school starts.

I'm going to attempt to pull a no alarms, no kills (minus bosses), and Hard mode all-in-one streak out of my ass. After which, I'm going to go through the game again doing something different and specializing in different shit because it's god-damn Deus Ex.

Finished the game without kills or alerts on the hardest setting, first playthrough. It was grand.

Also, turns out that the stun gun instakills Yelena, if she gives you trouble. It may work on the other two commandos, but I'm not sure.

I killed my way through the prologue, and subsequently forgot. I had quite the rude awakening when I finished the game and didn't get the achievement.

Don't have the game yet.
But here's a question: been watching a walkthrough or two, and noticed all the cardboard boxes lying around. I guess those can be used as a distraction. But can you knock people out with them? (like killing people with hamburgers in GTA IV or something)

I tried to not kill anyone but I kept running out of ammo for the non-lethal weapons and I don't have the patience to try and sneak past/take down everybody. I'm on 'Give me Deus Ex' and I'm not finding anything too hard, but I like the difficultly as it forces me to fight smart.
But the first boss is a dick, 2 Grenades at your feet and 10+ Armor piercing pistol shots to your face? I got lucky when I finally won. Fuck that guy.

Oh man, I just gave up pure stealth about the fifth time I died. XD I think I'm just really bad at the game. Now I'm going more for a stealth-combat type thing. Stealth for a while and take out as many as you can, then just kill the rest lol.

And I'm only on Give Me A Challenge. I am so ashamed. Time to drop down to Tell ME A Story. XD

I've really surprised myself with this game. I usually suck when I start a new game in a series I haven't played before (as, discounting the demo, this is my first Deus Ex game). And I mean REALLY bad. Assassin's Creed was an absolute disaster my first time. But I am fucking great at this game! I thought it was just luck, but damn, I'm kicking ass!

Wall of text on some tips.

For those running out of ammo for the Stun Gun, P.E.P, or Traq rifle, either use it sparingly, or upgrade hacking. I've found a LOT of non-lethal ammo in areas I had to hack into. Merchants sell them in spades as well. P.E.P ammo is RARE. Only use it if you absolutely HAVE to. NEVER use weapons when fighting one enemy, or enemies far apart. Knock them out, wait for your battery to recharge, then take the other out. You can knock out one of two enemys if they are close together, by just ensuring that the one that you are not knocking out, has his back to you at the time. There is no in-game 'noise' that enemys can hear when you do a non-lethal takedown that I have noticed.

ALWAYS CROUCH, in 'Give me a Challenge' at least, you don't make any noise when crouching.

@girl_in_background: Just a tip, but look for vents. Vents are a godsend for stealthy players. I got into only one true combat area in the first mission, I passed all the others through vents. Hacking is also great. Inventory and hacking were my first upgrades, and still my most useful.

Back on topic:

The merchent is in a 'secret' door in the brothel near the landing pad. I think the door is on the bottom level, where the manager is. Some people discuss it near one of the entrences to the second distric you can go in China.

@4173: Same. I killed only two guys at the start, didn't give it any thought at the time.

Are the 'alerts' in question when the mini-map thing says HOSTILE? I've had a lot of those when I run at an enemy and do a takedown. If not, I only had one real alarm.

I just got back from Montreal (So happy that they made the heart of global news in Canada.) so I don't know what these 'docks' are, but I have 60 tranq ammo, 8 P.E.P.S, and 34 stun darts. Bring It.

aaaand back off topic:
How does this compare to the first game? I played the demo for the first game twice in a row, it was the best game I had ever played, but this seems pretty close to it.

Holy crap I wrote a lot!

Cardboard boxes? Probably not.

If you upgrade the arms to allow you to pick up heavy objects like turrets, vending machines, fax machines, dumpsters, etc. and throw those, you can kill pretty quickly though.

I decided to save the "No kill" run for for my second playthrough. Right now my strategy is to just sneak around and shoot people in the head with my tricked out pistol, which is working out surprising well.

They do their best to make you regret it near the end though.
How did you complete it the first time, and have all the different endings done within 7 minutes of each other?

I managed to complete the first actual mission with no kills, but not the prologue. I'm not really worried about achievements though, I'm mostly playing for fun. I'll see how long I can handle playing pure stealth/no kills, but I'm sure eventually I'll breakdown and just start shooting things up.

I'm kinda like that with games. Its why I prefer Deus Ex or something like Fallout/Oblivion over a game like Splinter Cell. I like stealth action, but not the hardcore if you get seen even once you fail. I like having the option of oh S**t I just got caught, ok, time to fight my way out.

Q: Can anyone tell me where to find a merchant in China? I just beat the first boss and am in the new locale, and I can't find one.

A: 'He's in the first room on your left when you enter The Hung Hua Hotel/Brothel in Lower Hengsha.' Thanks Sober!

There's a second merchant as well. He's in a storage closet in the Alice Gardens.

Finished my Pacifist/Foxiest run my first run.
Quite entertaining sneaking through the entirety of the game.
Doing my 'Give me Deus Ex' run w/o trying perfect stealth.

Hardest thing about the Pacifist run is saving Malik w/o killing any of the bastards -.-

I have a question, if you let the hostages die early in the game, does it ruin the chance to get the achievement/trophy?
