*ahem*

Well, Deus Ex: Human Revolution has hit the shelves, has been well received, barring a few unfortunate missteps, and seems to be selling nicely. It would appear that Eidos/Squeenix have themselves a viable property to play around with.

So what do you think they should do with the series now? A direct sequel to HR? A sequel to Invisible War? A sequel to DE that erases IW from existence? Or do you think they should just quit now on a high note before they screw it up again?

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off of some kind. Perhaps something set in that Australian civil war that kept being mentioned. Civil war in Australia with robo-limbs, that's interesting... right? Although I can already hear the terrible accents.

Thoughts? Where would you like to see the series go?

As someone who tried and failed to get into the supposedly great original game, I wouldn't mind seeing a remake that eliminates technical flaws and fixes shortcomings (by today's standards). You know, give it swanky graphics, include the autosave function, update core mechanics (stealth and so on), make the crossbow stun gun less useless, etc.

Bad pun noted. Well done, sir.

I want the series to go further and further back with each game until we end up in the medieval era. Or hell, even pre-historic era! Just imagine a caveman Jensen: "Grunt never ask this!"

In all seriousness though, I would like them to scratch Invisible War and make a direct sequel for the original game.

Sigh... it's clear to me that Eidos is not capable of re-creating the magnificent piece of work DX1 was. Human Revolution was on the right track, but clearly lack of funds or time or both made the devs cut the game short, making the ending one of the most disappointing I've seen. It's not the worst ending, but since the game starts off so great, having it plummet so low is terrible.

On that note, and considering how much I loved DX1, I think they should stop. I can't see any decent way of making more games on the theme without butchering the whole thing (especially after the sound maiming it got from Invisible War.).

A HD update of the original game (while leaving EVERYTHING except the graphics intact) would be nice, but frankly I've played the original game a short while back, and the horribly outdated graphics took nothing away from the experience.

Robo-Kanga!! Robo-Koala!! Robo-Paul Hogan!! Robo-Mad Max!! That would be sweet. I think the robo-kangas could take the robo-biker gangs though.

The sensible thing would be to stop now, but that won't happen.

I would love to see a 3D isometric, turn based, tactical game with cyborgs that hack computers, wreck office buildings and cause havoc in general. That probably won't happen either.

I guess they will make an MMO, seems to be the trendy thing to do with a franchise.

The prequel that was Human Revolution just made me hungrier for seeing Deus Ex's story continued, so hopefully the next one would take place later in the timeline. I would love to continue the advantures of Mr. Jensen, but it's a bit of a tossup.

One thing I noticed in Human Revolution is that it was a STRICTLY faithful sequel, only changing a few things (enough things, mind, plenty to bring it up to the modern era and make it competent), and I'm assuming this was on purpose. They stuck to the original forula and just updated it for the modern age. That's why I tend to call it a reboot more than a sequel.

For the next game, they need to branch out and take some risks. Don't just copy Deus Ex's gameplay again. Try some new things. It doesn't have to be radical, but I want to see them expand on the idea again. With new gameplay elements, a continuation of Deus Ex's marvelous story, and them taking the knowledge of HR under their wings and improving where it failed, they could have a damn good sequel on their hands, if handled properly.

Edit: Also, I loved the title. All is forgiven.

What? Human revolution is not a sequel, it's a prequel. Also, Deus Ex's story pretty much ends after Invisible War. :D
You've probably got me there. Ehh.. I meant that it's a sequel in the "game produced next" sense. I know it fits in before the original in the canon. I didn't know Invisible War ended, though, because I never finished it. <.< Whoops.

It'd be worth the accents to see an Augmented Drop-Bear swoop down and tear some mercenaries a new one. Yeah, I'd buy that.

I can only hope (in vain) they go the BioShock Infinite route and make a spiritual sequel rather than an actual one. As much as I loved Human Revolution and would like to experience more of its world, the need to reference existing continuity was responsible for some major problems with the game's plot (like an ending that changes nothing, the appearance of Bob Page for no goddamn reason other than fan service, or a reveal about Adam's past that must seem truly nonsensical to people who don't remember details of the original Deus Ex) and that's only going to get worse if they decide to stick with the setting.
