Not to be a dick or anything, Drow, but I haven't really seen anything saying that it isn't a reboot =S Ok, sure, it's been said that it just takes place in a different universe or something along those lines, but that can be taken in many different ways.

So, if you do have a link or anything, saying that it isn't a reboot, feel free to post it =]
If I could find that goddamn article where Ninja Theory or whoever confirms that this is just a prequel to Devil May Cry 3, not an alternate universe story, I'd give it. Pretty sure I didn't just hallucinate that.

What attracted me? I love the manic combat system, and building up combos is brilliant fun; likewise trying to attain the SSS Stylish rank.
I also love all the references to ancient mythology and legend. The characters, weapons, place names and even some of the move names all refer to something in Greek, Norse, Christian or any other sort of legend.

Also, Dante is damn cool. I like him in DMC4 the best when he is a bit more mature, but still as witty and arrogant as ever. Virgil is also very cool. He was a quality character that should be bought back. If DmC is a reboot and therefore focuses on Dante's origins, I hope that Virgil makes an appearance. Nero was alright, but you have to do some background research to find out about his character apart from the whiny adolescent you get to play as
most sources cite that he is Virgil's illegitimate son as there are an awful lot of hints towards this
.

All in all, they are fun games that are a good way to kill a few hours. The extended difficulties add more challenges for those who pursue it. Combat is enjoyable and the story, albeit cheesey, is pretty good.

Yes, gentlemen, this game takes place in the same timeline as the rest of the series. Where is your God now?

What got me into the series was the demo for the first game packaged with Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. The minute I chucked an enemy into the air and kept it up there with bullets was the minute I fell in love with the would-be series. When the game came out and Dante was characterized, it was official. I was sticking with this series through thick and thin.

I despise the direction they've taken with Dante and I would question whether Mr. Tameem ever even played the games, seeing as he doesn't seem to have a clue what it's about. It's not social commentary, it's just awesome, and he can't seem to wrap his head around that. He also needs to reassess what he considers "cool," because Bob (I refuse to call him Dante) looks about as intimidating and stylish as the lead vocalist of BrokeNCYDE.

Oh, found it:

I'll be honest. It will be a little while. We just announced it this morning. But, hang in there. This is a reboot of the DmC series, and we have a vision for it, and do not intend to alienate any of you. I can't say more, and I really wish I could, since I know a lot of you are upset. Give it a chance to show you some more detail though. You've seen but a fraction of a glimpse of what the full scope of the project is.
I think they said it is in the same universe, but they said (Ninja Theory, that is) that they'll be 'retelling' some of Dante's past, which kinda hints that they might change some stuff around. I guess a hint to this is the fact that he's wearing the union jack on his jacket, despite him being American in the past games. That, or he just likes having union jacks on his clothes, which is a little odd.

Other than the fact that Dante has clearly been homosexual in the first 4 games, and now looks like a relatively normal teenager without being overly camp or sporting a bizarre Oedipus complex; the game looks pretty good to me. I agree with the various people who said the first was the best so far, but hey this game has a fighting chance to surpass the last generation feel of DMC4 and not focus on bland female characters and fratricide. The most idiotic thing is the fan base saying it is too westernised now, well it's being developed by a western company, go figure.

My ass! DMC 3 was the best outta the entire bunch. It took what was great about the first, and added a ton of new goodies.

Hell, even DMC2 didn't really suck, per se. It was a flawed but decent action game on its own merits, and the worst thing about it was probably just the voice acting. It's just that it sucked in comparison to 1 and 3 (and 4, now that I've actually been able to play it).

In every way except music. DMC2's music was still pretty damn good.
