Diablo 3's Leah is one of the worst characters ever.

Let's forget all the hubbub about Diablo 3's forced online and the issues that it brings. I want to rant a bit about Leah.

Leah is absolutely, one of the worst characters I have ever seen in a game. She is as dumb as a bag of hammers and her opinion resembles a revolving door.
At the beginning, she is always harping on how "Uncle Deckard" took her on all these missions, and how many demons and such they encountered, but she is always saying to Deckard how there are no demons, and it's all silly superstition and folkore.

And I am like: "HELLO, THEY ARE LITERALLY BANGING ON YOUR DOOR!" A meteor crashes right down on the church, digs itself miles deep, drags Deckard along, brings the dead to live, and she is like; "well, it's not demonic at all, just a meteor, please rescue my uncle.".

Then, later on in the game, you take her through a sewer, and she says that she has been here before with her Uncle Deckard, and that they had to fight through mobs of skeletons, and only THEN does she realise that there might actually be some kind of supernatural, demonic force involved. Like she shouldn't have realised this before, when she fighting all those undead!

Let's not even go into the fact that the previous demonic invasion happened 10 years ago, so she should be able to remember something of that, plus all the undead that pop up after the meteor strikes. Yet, until that moment in the sewers, she denies everything and suddenly does a 180.

Dumbest **** ever.
WHAT WAS BLIZZARD THINKING?!

Captcha: dollar bill
...that actually might explain it.

Somehow I don't think Blizzard were really focussed on consistent characters and the like when making the game.

I mean, who on earth plays a Diablo game for the story characters?

She exists to be a very short lived Exorcist reference and give the game a tissue thin veneer of appeal to women.

How weird, since Blizzard is known for creating deep and intresting characters, fantastic plotlines that very well connects with previous games and also restraint when it comes to references taking over major parts of a storyline...

Oh wait...
True, same as using "10.000 years since I was imprisoned/released/kidnapped/resurrected" as a plotline, which they use in every single game. It's like 10.000 is the magic number.

Still, Leah is really taking the cake with her stupidity.

I actually don't think she takes the cake, Garrosh Hellscream in WoW kills a general because the general did exactly what Garrosh told him to.

No, I'm serious.
This. Garrosh is so facepalmingly retarded you have to wonder what Thrall was smoking when he decided to make him Warchief over someone more competent...like Saurfang.

Every character is a Mary Sue and the plot is a series of MacGuffins. And I don't care, because I get to kill endless armies of demons and that reward circuit in my brain gets plenty of love.

Every character in Diablo is simply a plot device with a voice and a brief personality, in order to drive our epic adventure through 1,000 labyrinth style dungeons of clicky goodness. I think we are all aware of this by now, no?

That said, I am fond of the characters of this recent game, to disagree with you. If you take in the general feel of the setting that humanity would rather forget the events of Diablo 2 considering the horrors the 3 Prime Evils inflicted upon Sanctuary, and that they have been weakened due to that desire to forget/fear something like it ever happening again, and.. yeah. You can understand Leah's insistence that Cain is coo-coo until she is forced to accept the horrors she sees.

Also, Deckard Cain has been wearing wise old man plot armor up until now, of course. It is about time he finally kicked the bucket.. before the bucket decided to just walked over and tipped him into it itself.

Yeah but, Diablo has risen three times in a lifetime. I'd think people would just be sick of the twit more then worried. They all crap on about the "end times" but you'd think they would be more or less annoyed about Diablo's inconvenience.

were there even characters other than Deckard Cain in Diablo 2?

I'd say Leah is alright, nothing memorable but not as bad as 90% of the characters Square Enix puts out.

I wasn't playing Diablo for the story anyway.

True, I remember that quest now. It felt very epic when the cutscene happened, but afterwards I was like: "wait, what just happened?". :D

Garrosh is indeed the pinnacle of bad writing, I've seen plenty of statements from Blizzard saying how deep and evolved his character is. Pfff, Blizzard's track record of writing is on par with the Richard Knaak novels.

Think of it like this,
Wolves, wolves are real, they are mean, they hurt.
Now, if I tell you, out there, there is a PRIME wolf, three, maybe. and four lesser great wolves, and all the wolves are being led by these seven great wolves in an attempt to take over the world, and these great wolves are in a different dimension, and I'm quite possibly a senile old man, and the only other people who ever saw these great wolves are dead to my knowledge because the arch-cat of justice blew up the thing that made the world because it was corrupted by a prime wolf.
Then I am clearly making **** up.
