I am in pain waiting for Diablo 3, but I am to cheap to actually go out and pay for a Diablo clone so, can someone suggest a FREE (I repeat FREE) Diablo clone that is NOT an MMO. Thanks

DeathSpank?

idk, I never liked the concept of Diablo series, therefore I never played 'em =P

but you can play Diablo 1 on PSOne, and it's not a MMO

I think there are no free Diablo clones, so good luck if you keep looking.

Anyways, if you could afford it (which you probably would if you have $20), check Torchlight, it's a nice Diablo clone, and it can be rather entertaining for a good while.

Free?

Ummm.

You lost me there. If you had even a small budget, I could suggest Torchlight.

It's by many of the same people who made Diablo 2, who formed their own studio.

There are no good FREE Diablo clones. The absolute cheapest I can think of is probably the best anyways, Sacred 2 at $20. Could probably even find cheaper in someone's clearance bin.

Might not be what you're looking for, but roguelikes are what inspired Diablo, and they're all free.

Angband if you want to be bored, ToME for something I've never played before (they are both LotR-flavored), Nethack for the most popular game of its kind, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for something a bit more beginner-friendly, and ADOM if you hate yourself.

Go ahead and PM me if you want info on/help acquiring any of the above, I'd be happy to help.

Free? That's steep. Here are some good ones that are easy to find for cheap:

Titan Quest
Torchlight
Dungeon Siege Series
Sacred Series
Divine Divinity Series
Nox
Fate

Most of these you can find on GOG.com or Steam for cheaper than your average sandwich.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find one that's free. But Torchlight and Titan Quest are pretty good...

I'm going to take a different route, and suggest Solomon's Keep for the iphone. Excellent pick up and play hack 'n Slash, funny addictive and charming. Kept me more entertained than most of the AAA titles i own.

Now now, don't be hasty. I'd suggest at least giving roguelikes a try. Sure, they're not easy or simple like Diablo, but they're good fun. And if not winning is an issue for you, you can always back up saves.

Just saying. Some of them are really quite good.

Oh, wait. You can tolerate poor (and, in ADOM's case, ASCII) graphics, right?

...Right?

Okay, maybe it's not for everyone.

I can normally tolerate poor graphics, and I play rouge likes every now and then, but they are not my favorite, I'm playing IVAN...ish

Nope.

Mostly because there's no such thing. Not because we lack originality, but because you're dumb if you make a free one that isn't an MMO.

That said, the modding community might have something. But for that you need the game it's made on, and that ain't free either.

OSARE (Open Source Action Roleplaying Engine) is still in its infancy, but it is shaping up rather nicely! It is free, Open Source, and what you are looking for.

However, it still have a long way to go before it is as good as commercial action rpgs.
