[HEADING=2]Behold, fair citizens![/HEADING]

I strolled around on the internet, and after doing a search on the Escapist, I did not find any reference to these screenshots. So without further ado:

Link to the 'Blizzcast', containing the screen shots and also an interview [http://eu.blizzard.com/blizzcast/archive/episode8.xml]

I have to say these screens are making me eager to play this game! I like the way that melee classes like the berserker also have their special skills and abilities. I haven't played Diablo II myself, so I can't tell of any difference between the two though. I just hope that the skills of these melee-ers won't outmatch the spellcasting classes.

The equipment system seems solid enough, although I'm a bit doubtful of the inventory, since it seems slightly small and not capable of carrying a whole bunch of items, though the (dis)advantage of this is disputable.

What are your thoughts on these new screens? Are you getting as excited as I am?

My humble apologies if this has been done already, my search revealed nothing of this kind

Go play Diablo 2, it's that much easier to get excited when you know what we are potentially talking about.

The skill system looks a lotmore colorful and visually interesting, but it seems to lack the branching nature of the one in 2. The runes also look a bit odd, I really digged the use of strange symbols in the second part.

I prefered the skills in 2 sice they were split into more coherent parts a la Battlecries, combat abilities etc, these are a bit more abstract with the 'Berserker' class.

Some nice changes that I noticed:

They seem to have more advanced gems. They also seem to have an upscaling Rune system for tweaking your skills that might work like the gem system.

I'm not hyped on D3 at all. I can wait with buying it even though I will buy it just to see how they pull it off this time.

#3 - SC2 is being released in 3 parts for each campaign over a few years...
They will not (well better bloody not..) wait to release D3, they are separate projects being worked on by completely different people :) So fingers crossed..

As for the screenshots, the most noticeable difference is they have switched where inventory and skills are viewed...What's the mad idea behind that? After 2 games of getting used to it they up and change it...bah

The skill system is very Diablo 2. I kinda wish they made the experiance more unique; like imagine Vampire the Masquerade discipline system. Every level was a new power in and of itself. Rather than increase odds, percentages, et al, I wish skill levels brought something new to the table rather than odds.

Oh well, griping over. I still play Diablo 2, so whatever. ;) It won't stop me from enjoying the game.

For the most part, ditto. :) I was that way with Diablo 2. Everyone was clammoring for it, and I was like, "oh, it's out now? Neato. I think I'll get it... over the weekend." I don't think D3 will be any different. :)

I sadly can't help myself from getting hyped up, I suppose I'm too in love with Diablo 2.
Love the new interface, but I wonder why the mana sphere was replaced with the arcane-like plate...

I noticed that too. They could be bound keys to three spells with the mana filling up behind them. Maybe, perhaps?

That's what the bags in the inventory are for. In each bag there's almost the same amoutn of space as in your regular inventory. And as everyone has said, go pick up Diablo 2 for $5, you won't regret it.

I actually tried Diablo II a bit. Only last year or so though, and to be honest the graphics shook me off. I tried liking it, but it was to hard to peer through the graphics. Somehow I get lost because of that. Also my other RPG experiences are quite different I think than from Diablo II. I played Neverwinter Nights, and of course KOToR and Mass Effect. They are quite different in gameplay and it was hard to pick it up.

Perhaps I'll give it a try again though, if a game is that critically acclaimed there has to be some merit to it.

Maybe its cause its the Barbarian? Instead of mana he might use something diferent? As I always thought it was weird that the Babarian used mana. *shrug*

Also! Hurray no more bashing 1-2-3-4 for potions...now I only break one button! :p

I know what you mean. I tried playing it recently and I had troubles playing through the graphics. But I have played it many times through when it came out. It's like watching a Children's show again when you're an adult, it doesn't look NEARLY as good as it did when you first saw it and experienced it.

For you though, work through the pain. RPGs have become more advanced and complex like Mass Effect. Just dumb yourself down a bit. Play it in a window whilst on MSN or surfing the web, before you know it you'll be hooked.

I'm looking forward to this game, but I really wish they'd hurry up.
So am I but I'd rather not have the game rushed.
Blizzard don't rush! They will probably extend the time to add some little extra features that are not even important.

I'm excited for Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 but I know it's still going to be awhile! I would say (SC2: 1 year, D3: 2 years).

Woot, another woefully inadequate amount of inventory space! Thanks for giving us an awesome random loot generator but not nearly enough room in our backpacks to carry any of it!

I am looking forward to D3, though. I enjoyed 1&2 and their expansions, so it's it more of the same, I'll eat it up.

When I first saw the gameplay video I just knew I had to get this. I mean, it just looks so good. I'm getting all hipped up for this now...
