It's a nice gesture by them and I do hope that they are able to bring them out for free. What does really confuse me though is that more than once i've heard the arguement that microsoft didn't allow for Map DLC to be free on games, yet on BC1 they were and they plan to on BC2. What am I missing here, is MS just strange with who they decide to give free dlc or are companies just blaming microsoft as they know their won't be reprecussions.

It's all very confusing

Too bad it's not up to DICE how much to charge, it's up to EA. Doubt this will gel with their "Project $10 Rip-Off" but we'll see.

Well that's nice.
It's a shame the game is terrible.
At least, I think it's just terrible.

Lag issues, terrible hit-detection, spastic accuracy on weapons, only 4 person chat, getting caught up on the smallest things in the environment (How did I just stop dead? Oh. There is a small rock right there. Of course.). For me, this game is just so very...not fun. At all.

But hey, people seem to enjoy it, and free DLC will please those people I'm sure.
So...yay?
your entititled to your own opinion but let me just point out that lag isn't a fault of the game as much as the servers you happen to play on, and any one of your own connection issues. and you did realized you have to account for gravity, and movement when sniping right lol?

Also I find there's more mic convo on BC2 then i ever get on MW2, and i own both on the pc. I know theres a lot of mic chatter on consoles, but its dead silent on PC (more so for MW2 then BC2)

I recall a scenario that goes something like this:

Man A is proudly announcing that he did not go to prison, as if he has accomplished some feat.

Man B says, "Oh, good. You did what you were supposed to do. Did you want a cookie or something?"

In this case, it's the same thing. Oh, look, you have continuing free support for your game. Good job on keeping up with the standard. Oh, sure, you have people like Activision and Nippon Ichi nickel and diming you, but just because they're big and famous doesn't mean they set the bar. What about that company Shamus is always talking about, that release constant updates for their games? I mean, if you collected enough content to create an expansion pack, then we can talk money. But if all you did was put together a map or two, and maybe re-skin some character models, you will never convince me to part with my money. And thus it's an even tougher sell to convince me that when you won't take my money for this service, it somehow makes you magnanimous paragons of all that is right with the world.

TL;DR? Thanks for the maps, but I doubt you'll be winning the Nobel Prize for your "charity" and good will. Now go back to work on the inevitable Bad Company 3 and don't screw up the Campaign mode this time.

This was a test. Sorry to triple post, just checking if something was wrong with my connection, or if there was some weird April foolery going on.

Yeah the maps might be free, but I bet the new character costumes will cost money. When they release it from the US. Which is a repeat of the mass effect promo offers. Not that I'm bitter...

Seriously, Dr pepper is sold around the world, why the hell didn't they extend the promo offers outside of the US?

Maybe they won't charge for maps, but from what I've seen so far are simply maps that were already in the game but made available for other game modes. What they will charge you for however are shitty new skins that are basically recolors of the old ones.

DICE is certainly on the right track here. Now to see if EA actually sits by and allows intelligence and logic to prevail.

Having to pay for map packs is the stupidest thing ever implemented by game developers (or their publishers). Splitting the player base means that people are either going to have trouble actually getting matches on the new maps or people who don't have the map packs get excluded. DICE is doing the right thing here.

I don't care if it's a pot shot at modern warfare 2. free maps for me is free maps for me. the cool thing was that as soon as I started playing bad company 2, I knew I would never play MW2 again.

DICE Vows Never to Charge for Battlefield Maps

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE has pledged that it will never charge money for downloadable map packs.

Downloadable map packs in games are always going to be a tricky subject, because you run the risk of splitting your player base, especially when you charge money for them. It's good news for Bad Company 2 players however, as developer DICE has promised not to charge for maps for the game.

"We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial when it came to keeping our community happy and playing together," said DICE senior producer Patrick Bach, adding, "We're owned by EA but we're still very much DICE."

DICE has commented that it has 'generous' amounts of DLC in store for Bad Company 2, and while it's great that DICE wants to support the Bad Company 2 community, it's hard to see this as anything other than another salvo in the war against Modern Warfare 2. Still, there's no reason for BC2 players to care, as they will continue to get free stuff regardless of the motive behind it.

But if they don't. Well, good for sticking to their principles.
Project Ten Dollar and the current free content thats coming out from Bioware for ME2 begs to differ Activision fanboy.

EA are all about the free DLC if you bought the game new.
Except there's paid content for ME2 as well now that doesn't fall under the project ten dollar umbrella.

I have no doubt the map updates will continue to be free.

When actual new maps are introduced, as in completely new maps and not slight rehashes of existing maps, then we'll see how long DICE can keep EA from charging for the content.

Project Ten Dollar is EA's project, not Activision. Both companies are guilty.

And DICE are owned by EA, hence they come under Project Ten Dollar. So these free map packs are entirely in-line with EA's current market strategy.

I don't see what's wrong with Project Ten-Dollar? It's a pretty decent reward scheme for people who bought the game new. Since BC1 had a free map pack some time after launch, I'm hopefully that DICE will keep their word on this.

Also, for all those knocking the campaign, I'm not quite sure what was so bad about it? It is far lighter in tone than MW2 (I deem this to be a good thing. I don't need melodrama in every game I play) and mostly just plain fun. The characters are memorable and touching and aren't killed off every couple of missions.
