Did anyone else find the Resident Evil 6 demo underwhelming?

I'm not buying this game unless I read nothing but positive things about this game from players and reviewers, I can't see it happen. I feel sorry for my friend who I know is going to end up disappointed by this game, but is buying it because its got Resident Evil stamped on it, like he was disappointed by Operation Raccoon City.
I'm sorry, but...why?

I loved the demo, but if you didn't then that to me signifies a game I would not want to buy. Just because it got glowing reviews would not make YOU like it any better. Playing the game is the best way to judge if you'll like a game or not, and that's what you did with the demo so I'd say it's probably not for you. Why would the rest of the game change your mind? =S
Because I like Resident Evil, 2 and 4 being my favourites. But I'm not an obsessive fan, I thought that 5 was bad and the less said about Operation Raccoon City the better. I honestly think the demo has saved me £40 and to be fair I only really pay attention to one review site and if they gave it a glowing review (which I doubt) and people on this site started posting "ignore the demo this game is awesome" (which I doubt) then I will probably buy the game.

This may seem strange to you but in the past this system has worked for me. I really didn't like the demo for Batman Arkham Asylum, but the overwhelmingly positive praise from all quarters convinced me to pick it it up and I ended up loving it.

In reality though, I can see myself borrowing the game from my friend just to see for myself how disappointing/good it is.

PLAY THE DEMO

Or at least read this:

Leon's Mission was abysmal. There's no fluidity in his combat. You CAN shoot zombies, but there's a stand-alone attack that you can spam in a crowd of zombies worry free. You can also dodge their attack, which I didn't do. So as it stands, I can run, shoot while I move, dodge, kick, punch and stab at will. Where's the strategy?

There is a stand-your-ground sequence in a hallway. Zombies bust in from the windows like in RE4. The only problem is that these close quarters wreck the camera so I was running from one end to the other while spamming the attack combo. After about 4 minutes of chaos and swirling camera angles it was over.
I tried doing that too, but at one point towards the end of his segment, I actually did run out of stamina and was unable to melee attack, and several zombies began biting my tits off and was knocked on the ground by more zombies. I almost died. Up until that point, I didn't even realize there was stamina.

It seems that the tried and true method of shot to the face+melee attack is still the best way to do melee. Without stunning an enemy, it takes at least 3 melee attacks to get a kill, and end up draining quite a bit of stamina. I wonder how this would play out on harder difficulties.

AND THAT BOSS FIGHT was boring. It had no where near the suspense of RE4's "El Gigante". You run from one end of the room to the other while he follows you, oblivious to your patterns. You shoot the Plaga in his back a few times and he flees. That's it. No jumping on his back. No slashing at the Plaga with a knife. He just runs away.
You actually can jump on his back.

Just saiyan.

As for everyone who said the demo was too easy, let me ask you something: Was RE4 and 5 challenging to you on 'normal'?

It's been ages since I played 4, but I remember it's 'normal' difficulty not giving too much of a challenge. And 5's normal difficulty was absolutely not challenging at all, and was really only challenging and exciting on veteran and professional. Don't you think RE6 might be the same way?

As for Famitsu giving it a 39/40, don't trust them. More and more are "game reviewers" just trying to earn a paycheck. Someone has got to blow the whistle. Things are getting out of hand. :/
There isn't really anything to blow the whistle on. Most people from consumers on up to publishers know that review scores are basically bought an paid for nine times out of ten, and it's been happening for decades. It just also happens to have gotten worse since magazines basically died. At least subscription and news stand sales meant they had at least a minor degree of financial freedom from advertising money. Even Famitsu is a bit of a joke since their formerly rare 40/40 has been handed out more times in the last four years than it was in the first 20 that they existed.

There were just so many things wrong with it I honestly couldn't believe it. Just in technical terms it's a complete mess, never mind game-play decisions and story.

To be honest I haven't really followed Resident Evil since Code Veronica X, but I never recall having issues with the game from a technical aspect, it was more down to not being able to find a key to advance to the next area or having trouble with the bosses.

This one was extremely easy, just incredibly unsatisfying.

I can see what Capcom have tried to do with this game, with Leon and Chris (I didn't bother with the other guy) they've tried to split the game into sections to please classic and new fans. The problem is that they go about it in such a half arsed and superficial way and the game comes off as a conflicting mess.

Capcom really should have taken tips off Sega with Sonic Generations and created something closer to Resi 1 for Leon and for Chris kept it as Resi 4/5 rather than just changing up the weapons and hud.

Remember those pre school books with different drawings of ppl and the pages where split into 3 parts so you could create different combinations of ppl (Ie a mans head, a green alien middle and womans legs) Thats Resi 6 in a nutshell.

Since DeadSpace 3 is looking to do a similar thing, I hope to god EA do a better job than this.

Resident Evil 5 was underwhelming. I don't need a demo of RE6 to tell me that I'd just be investing in more of the same.

I tried jumping on his back, but there was no button prompt. RE4 gets a pass because of its innovation. RE5 was too chaotic to get into. It's DEMO wasn't anywhere near as visceral as Uncharted 2's.

What startles me is how Capcom decided to make RE6 different from other shooters; a complicated inventory system, strange controls and a lack of cover system for Chris's section -- I couldn't figure out how to hide. But it's like I said, there's no fluidity. And of all things, Third Person Shooters need this for the context of realism. The graphics need polishing, but the mechanics need to be redrafted back in the planning department.

Well I actually really liked it. Yeah it wasn't "real" Resident Evil but Resident Evil stopped being Resident Evil around the first time the guy with minigun showed up in Resi 5 or possibly around the 3rd screen of RE ORC. If anything this was more like Resi in some respects and I don't remember people complaining about zombies with guns when Resi 5 had that.

Anyway, loved the demo, gonna buy the game...

EDIT: Non of you seem to have played Jake's section which is probably the strongest of the bunch, its fast paced, exciting and really rather cool but Leon and Chris have really fun demos too...

From someone who isn't a a hardcore fan of Resident Evil, it is going to be hilarious to sit back and watch the fallout from this game. Capcom is going to get torn a new one.

Leon campaign was decent. Nothing special and I didn't like that fact that you ran by default. Dodging was really wonky too.

Sherry's campaign? Yeah fuck that. Pure chaos. Didn't even know what to do half the time. There's no way to enter cover efficiently and the zombies/las plagas/whatever have guns!! Guns?! Why? So not only are they highly mutated monstrosities that can grow tentacles and whatnot out of their bodies, but they can also wield AK-47s.

I mean if they are just going to be shooting me you might as well admit that this is a TPS rather than a "Horror" game.
