I have played RE4 many, many times. It is one of my favorite games. The only thing I dislike about it is that its genre is supposed to be "action/horror," but I never found it very scary. Sure, lots of parts of it were very intense, (Like the opening fight in the village.) but none made me feel frightened. It got me thinking about whether anyone found it scary.

So escapists, that is my question, did you find RE4 scary?

That about sums up my feeling on RE4. Fun, but not in any way scary.
Okay, the water thingy and the Regenerators were a little creepy actually, but not scary scary.

Only the late game regenerators, honestly.

But I don't really care whether it's scary or not, and still prefer RE5 over it in most ways.

In some ways it felt a bit too stylized to be really scary, but the sense of dread was still very much there. Especially the Farm section of the game had a very eerie atmosphere. And I dare anyone to play through that bit where Salazar's right hand man chases you around the sewers, and not feel a bit tense.

It was just very good campy horror; A little bit goofy and a little bit creepy.

It was scary at times, with the Regenerators and hearing the Villager's yelling (or a chainsaw) just outside your door when you have little health and ammo left, but it was mainly silly. I mean, they can't write dialogue like "Your hand comes off?" and think we are going to take it seriously.

I was scared of the giant fish untill I found out you use harpoons on it, I was thinking I'd have to kill it with a pistol.

^This. The bit at the beginning and the regenerators were pretty effective from a horror standpoint, but the game as a whole was more like Army of Darkness than Night of the Living Dead.

Like many people have said the regenerators were slightly unnerving. However after amnesia dark descent I think i'd look down on regenerators and think, muhahahah i haz gun.

The only thing that frightened me were the regenerators(Mostly because I SOLD my last rifle a chapter before I met them in my first play through then blasted them with all that I had left and ended up fighting it with a knife) and even then, once I scrounged up enough cash for a rifle, it was just unnerving to hear their breathing if nothing else when I have no idea where they were.

The chainsaw guys were also worth a jump scare but lost it's shock when I can play him with a shotgun

Regenerators are spooky and all but with my over upgraded sniper rife quickly shut them up. ^^

RE4 reminded me a lot of Army of Darkness. The dark, subtle humor and all. But, honestly there were a lot of creepy moments that really got to me. The first time you meet a regenerator, the bit where you play as Ashley and you're completely armless, and when you see a moving body bag in a container. really creepy shit that game had...

Scary, haha yeah sure..

It's a pure action shoot-em-up. It wasn't scary, it was actually rather fun.

Everything was very tame and unscary.... UNTIL THE REGENERATORS.

Those things freaked me out.

I actually did find it scary, or at least I did when I was younger, but even today I do find certain parts spooky.
