Ever gotten really angry or sad, because of a fictional character in a game got mistreated, or wrongly blamed for something ?
Or did you ever experience fear, anger or compassion for an NPC ?
Or did you ever get scared while playing a game ?

Not often, but there where a few moments, while playing a game I actually felt drawn into a moment, or felt sympathetic towards a character.

I'm NOT talking about falling in love with a drawn computer character or anything, that's just...wrong >_<

Here are a few examples:
- I got close to crying at the end of Half-Life 2: episode 2 (won't spoil it for people who haven't played it)
- In Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening, I actually got pissed at the templars when they ambushed Anders, after I recruited him in my team (what gave them the right ?!)
- I never felt more tense while playing hard games like The Witcher 2 or Dark Souls, or a scary game like Amnesia: The Dark Descent)
- How many times didn't a game force you to choose between "your" girl and the greater good ? (Alpha Protocol, The Witcher 2 and Mass Effect to name a few)

Tell me what you think :)

Well, of course it's the infamous last scene of Half-Life 2:Episode 2. Sad scene being sad.

Amnesia gives me general horror. Half the time I was like: 'shh, okey, let's sneak over there... Fuck, what was that?! Oh the wind... GAH, A MONSTER! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RU-CLOSE THE DOOR, CLOSE THE DOOR, HIDE HIDE HIDE HIDE HI-phew... Can I stay here for some hours?'

Any other feeling I get is irritation in those FUCK YOU moments games usually have.

I really haven't played a lot of games >_>

EDIT: I got quite happy when I saw the ending of the first Dark Cloud game. Happy endings FTW *w*

I always feel sympathetic towards Lacroix from Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines...despite everything, he just seems to put up with loads of grief from everyone. That quote about:

"The folly of leadership is that, whatever you do, there are hundreds thinking their ideas are the right ones, and that yours is nothing more than the by-product of a whimsical dart-toss"

Final Fantasy XIII- When Vanille breaks down and begs Sazh to shoot her.

WET- when Rubi finds her friend's brother who has been kidnapped by the bad guys, she immediatly tries to get him to safety, only for him to drug her and give her to them.

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days- when they killed Xiu.

Clive Barker's Jericho- when the Firstborn shattered Cole.

Saw: The game- when I completed a particularly hard puzzle, only for the guy I rescued to almost immediatly be crushed by the ceiling falling on top of him. Glad to know I helped him.

When does Mass Effect make you choose between "your girl" and the greater good? Sure, you have to make a choice regarding what might be "your girl", but the alternative isn't the greater good, just a whiny man who I was always happy to be rid of.

Shadow of the Colossus is an obvious one I think. I couldn't help but feel rather guilty every time you kill a colossus

The opening speeches in the Killzone games always gave me a strange feeling of pride.

Not sure if that counts.

Eh, he's one of the most powerful of the rarest class of human biotics there are. Seriously, (even though they both get statised like nobody's business by a collector swarm) Kaiden is capable of doing a lot more good than Ash can. Plus he's not even a little racist. Better ambassador for humanity. Of course I saved Ash, but I can't say I haven't regretted it when I weight the life of another soldier against the life of a one of a kind biotic.

I challenge anyone to play through Red Dead Redemption without becoming emotionally attached to some of its characters. But only because that game stands up as an exceptional example of story-telling. Most games are, for me, just games to be played and enjoyed - but RDR truly stands apart.

I felt slightly bad about killing the Moonlight Butterfly...

That is the closest I have come.

*sighs* This thread has been done so many times.
Yes, they do, watch me play a round of TF2, see how much I want every spy or everyone else to fall before my mighty sentry.

Well, of course. Otherwise I would have stopped playing them long ago, as soon as the novelty of having the pictures move when I press buttons had worn off.

Although "emotion" is a rather broad term. Even the basic feeling of elation you get from winning a close round of Call of Duty is an emotion. But I know what you mean.

Some random examples:
- The city elf origin story in Dragon Age. "You can have her back in the morning." Ohhh, that's it buddy, I am going to fucking gut you.

- That one part in Bastion. If you've played the game and made the appropriate choice then you know the one I mean. Also, I found the Kid's backstory surprisingly touching. I thought it did a very good job of characterising him as the sort of dogged determinator who would be stopped by nothing short of terminal dismemberment. Which in turn made that one scene all the more effective.

- Amnesia. "Don't look at me, don't look at me, don't... oh fuck, he's looking at me... Jesus, run, bloody run!" To date the only game that managed to discourage me from exploring out of fear. Once I saw the exit in that prison area, I got the fuck out, extra items be damned.

- Deus Ex Human Revolution, the side mission involving the dying PI and the senile nurse. Suffice to say, my stun gun and tranq rifle didn't get much use during that one.

- That juncture in Dragon Age 2 where all your companions decide whether or not to stay with you. All but one of them did. It felt like a huge payoff and I was immensely relieved.

Games always make me feel emotions. Mostly Joy, but I don't think you mean that one. One of the most Stand out emotive moments was in GTA IV
When you kill the guy who betrayed you in the past. I felt really bad about killing him afterwards, the game started off leading up to that moment but then it went in a different direction and I had gotten over the fact that I was going along with Niko in his quest for revenge. Then he shows up out of the blue, and I killed him.
I felt really bad about it afterwards though, and that feeling stuck with me for a long time after that aswell.

And also Condemned: Criminal Origins. That game made me feel fear unlike any I had experienced before. I fucking love that game.
