When I played Bioshock for the fist time I was afraid to walk out of the bathysphere because I thought that the splicer who attacked it was still there.

In Red Dead Redemption I was genuinely sad at

the end where Edger Ross kills John.

In Dead Rising 2 : Off the Record when you see a PSP and a backpack in a pool of rotting blood.

I think I lost part of my sanity.

Games aren't even close to films on tapping into my emotions. ANd probably infinity years away from the written word.
Sadly, this is still very true.

But hey, baby steps, right?

Aside from the fact that games tend to frustrate me at times, I've actually grown fond of a few NPCs in Oblivion.

Such as when you were forced to do the Purification in the Dark Brotherhood questline. I was quite fond of all of the members of that Guild.

But that didn't upset me nearly as much as near the end of their questline...

Your mentor Lucien Lachance is slain by the the highest members of the black hand after you have slain the speaker. You were trying to save him and yourself after the traitor forced you to take out most of the Black Hand by switching orders on you.

The way the NPCs acted after the second one especially made me angry...

Apart from the very normal rage and frustration when campers are everywhere and you can't seem to achieve anything?

I was really diasapointed in my people of Tropico when rebells blowed up my factory because economy was bad. Sad thing is that that factory was a key to my islands survival. I taught them better in my free but expensive schools.

In strategy games it makes me sad when I've to sacrifice unit / character in oder to get the job done. And there have been various cases in RPG's that I won't dwell into further so I don't spoil anything.

Generally, games will often make me feel rage. World-consuming, all-conquering, all-hating, pure, unadulterated fury.
Also pride when I succeed. My success is usually measured by the amount of blood I have managed to shed throughout the course of one particular game, i.e. the amount of skulls I have liberated from the tyranny of necks.

Of course they have, feeling entertained and excited is an emotional response and the most common one I've felt playing videogames. Then there's games like Amnesia which make me feel very tense and sometimes just plain horrified.

Silent Hill 2 just makes me feel bleak and lonely like there's nothing good left in the (game) world.

Kane and Lynch provoked outright annoyance in me and discomfort with some of the worst controls I've ever experienced, I felt more like I was piloting a hovercraft than controlling a person.

Persona 4: Most upbeat ending ever, seriously I was almost sick with how adorably cute the true ending was. Please note, this is not to say I dislike Persona 4, far from it.

SPOILERS:

In Deus Ex 3 I became a seething font of misogynistic rage against Megan, even if the thing with Jarod was only implicit and didn't happen her stupid epilogue scene is enough to despise her. Thank god for Malik, she may have been a bit boyish but was a character I liked.

homeworld

Nothing?

Disappointed.

Well, yeah, Homeworld. The first one specifically. Homeworld is also notably the only game to pull off "Oh look, this planet is going to blow up" effectivley by using the unique twist of actually just blowing up the planet at the start of the game and getting it over with. I can't explain why it works with words, it just *does*.

Quick edit: Actually, will give it a try. Instead of the usual "Hate these guys because they want to blow up the planet and kill all these people and you need to stop them before they do!!11!1!" It's more of a case of "Hate these guys because they did kill all these people and theres nothing left for you but revenge." Have I done it justice? Certainly not, but for those that havem't played it, hopefully it will give you a rough idea of why I liked it.

Edit2: Oh, X-COm as well. It's far too easy to get attatched to your soldiers after a few missions. Even if they have literally no personality. The game is (relativley) basic though, so it seems that I, and most others I know who liked the game, gave personalities and little stories to all the characters. They were all generic soldiers, and completely blank, but with the nature of the game it lent itself easily to the player filling in the story and personality of the soldiers and making the player actually care, or hate them accordingly.

Zack's death in Crisis Core, I knew it was going to happen but they led up to the moment very well, other than that there's always that oh shit moment when you run low on health during a boss fight.

I don't know about anyone else, but the title of this thread made think of this straight away...

"You know, my vision for gaming is where in one game you'll shoot someone and then during a game of say Fifa you'll see their son crying."

OT: Bastion, for sure. The music alone in that game was almost enough to coax a tear from these bitter old eyes.

Games have caused me to feel a lot of different emotions, not counting rage at the game itself.

In Kingdom Hearts 2, when Goofy is "crushed" by the boulder, I almost cried. And then I was both angry at the enemy and afraid, because seeing Mickey Mouse look pissed is a scary thing.

In Mass Effect 2, Zaeed's loyalty mission, I chose to not help the civilians put out the oil fires and chase after the target. The rest of the level I could hear them screaming and explosions, until suddenly it was quiet. I don't know if I've ever felt more guilty in a game. Ever.

At the end of Halo: Reach, I could feel the hopelessness of the situation, knowing that I was going to lose. But I was determined to take as many of the bastards with me as I could. The story sucked me in, what can I say.

Just to name a few.
