Did Modern Warfare 2 end with a Cliffhanger?

How I predict Modern Warfare 3 will end:

Pursuing The Burger King on foot through the streets of now half-destroyed NYC or DC, you corner him and manage to unmask him. It was Ronald Mc effing Donald all along. The whole Russian incident, the weapon smuggle, it was all for the power of McDonalds. But before you can finish him off, he stabs you with a frozen meat pattie, leaving you bleeding out on the floor. As you start to black out, you notice a paper wrapped straw beside you. Peeling the wrapping off the straw via an intense 2 minute QTE, you ball the paper up into your mouth, chew it up, then take wobbly-drunk-o-vision aim at Ronald, sniping him in the back of the head with the spitball.

Shit explodes, Ronald McDonald is found to be a Russian mobster dressed up as the clown himself, Team America F- Yeah! Credits.

I would actually buy the game if that happened

You're absolutely right. I apologise for my tone; I get a little worked up quite easily on this topic. As I said, Modern Warfare is one of my all time favourite games, and Modern Warfare 2 just... stabs me in the heart every time I think of the squandered potential.

...Because it would be way too easy for 3 to be even more over-the-top Rambo nonsense than the last one was.

When I read about the Survival Mode, and the 'Suicide Bomber Dogs' I wrote Modern Warfare 3 off. Sorry; just no.
The gameplay footage is just loud noises amongst scripts and very little actual gameplay, and the screenshots are all of pre-canned models in pre-canned positions, as opposed to actual in-game snaps of some regular team member just playing the game and showing it off.

I'm going to reply to both of those in this space because I can't work out where else to put it. An ultra-nationalist Russia lead by people who hate the West would spend as much, if not more than the US on their Military, so yeah, it's still plausible.

I disagree with you when you say that the TF141 people were as gung-ho as the Rangers. The Rangers had a kind of "Yeah, we'll show 'em!" attitude at the beginning and "Fuck me, you bastards!" one towards the end, whereas the 141 were more "Let's do what we need to do and get out of here" all the way through. It was clear that they had a more grim mind-set than the Rangers.

To counter your first point, I kinda doubt any nation could equal the monetary might of the US. If you draw up a top 10 of military spenders in the world, not only does the US take the no.1 spot but still spends more than places 2-10 combined. Russia would not, could not, raise that kind of financial clout. Hell, I doubt even China could, and they're the strongest contenders. Plus on top of that the figures I quoted are for governmental spending only. Let's not forget that a large portion of the US public is tooled up due to the 2nd Amendment turning them into ready equipped guerrilla fighters. Bottom line? Pick any five super-nations you care to name, add them together in a coordinated military strike, and they wouldn't get off (or even to) US beaches.

Second, whilst I'll concede that the attitudes and motivations of the different squads were polar opposites, they still got involved in the same activities. If MW2 had followed on from CoD4 then TF141 would have been a bunch of sneaky covert stealthboys. But in every stealth mission in MW2 IW can't resist bringing the 'boomhammer' down. If you're not jumping implausible canyons on a snowmobile you're calling in predator drones on sub bases or leading the assault on a prison during a naval bombardment - none of which class as 'stealthy' in my book.

Alright, you've got me there, even the TF141 missions were choking down bullshit pills, but if I want absolute realism, I'll play Operation Flashpoint, but if I want to enjoy Hollywood-style action scenes, it has to be CoD.

If you consider the end of "The Empire Strikes Back" to be a cliffhanger, then yes. Han is frozen, so they have to find him, and the Empire still isn't defeated. There is no imminent threat to the characters at that point, but the story still isn't over. I would say no.

... what did he think Halo 2 was, a satisfying and emotionally impacting resolution?
