Did Starcraft 2 seem like a disappointment to you?

I know this is wayyyy late but I remember a time when I was just itching for Starcraft 2 to come out. When I saw the first official trailer I was all excited and couldn't wait for it to come out. Finally it came out, I went and bought it on the first day it came out, and I haven't been able to get into it. At least not the way I thought I'd get into it. It felt like they just re-skinned Warcraft 3 with a Starcraft title and added better 3D modeling and a physics engine.

Maybe the hype over the years built up this bar that was impossible to achieve? But it seems like the game has disappointed me completely. I still have more fun playing the original SC than I do SC2. Maybe it's because my computer can't handle the game at max settings? Maybe because the first SC seemed more simple and less bloated? What are your guy's opinions on the game, for those of you whom have played both?

EDIT: My bad flop was the wrong term, I just mean a disappointment. The game was too high grossing to flop

Personally for me? Yeah it was a huge flop. It didn't feel much different from the original. Then again it probably wasn't supposed to, but I couldn't shake the feeling that blizzard just put it out there to rake in the cash off the originals fans. I didn't play online though. As I don't really care for it. If i had to go with another reason though, I'd say they made SC2 to be more like C&C, an E-sport, not a game.

Nope, seems to be Better than the original. lots of little changes, but i mean tons of them, enough to make it a hell of a lot smoother and more enjoyable to play. Oh and it looks absolutely stunning on full settings.

Tbh I though Starcraft 2 was the worse RTS I've played ever
I'm inclined to agree here. Though, I wasn't a huge fan of the original either.

I'm just waiting for Blizzard DoTA.

I didn't enjoy it that much.

Storyline was pretty "Meh", wasn't keen on the whole "This is just the Terran side, we'll charge you for the other two as well."

Not that it wasn't well-done and you can see where the money went, but, it just gave a nasty feeling.

Pretty much yes. Even though it sold well and everything, it feels a lot less like a sequel to one of the best RTS games of all time and more like a well made RTS that you play for a month then get bored with. The koreans haven't really taken an interest in it and even some of the players are getting sick of it (IdrA has talked about moving over to professional poker). Honestly, it feels like nothing special to play and It even gets boring to watch quickly. Dunno if you would call that a flop, but it's a bit disappointing.

I loved the single player and went through it about 4 times. I only played a few multiplayer games, but then I've never really been into multi-player rts.

Nope. Just finished watching a live tournament going on in Korea right now. I watch whenever I can. As for myself, I enjoy SC and I am trying to master the Zerg. Not going good. I get demolished.

I haven't played it myself, but everyone I know who plays RTS games has been playing it constantly since release.

I played the game and enjoyed it well enough I suppose but I remain baffled by the love the world at large has for the game. I simply cannot fathom why so many love the online component as much as they do considering the game has offered no advancements in mechanics or ideas over it's predecessor.

What jumps out at me is how quickly it seems like the game was forgotten about on forums such as this one. 'Round here, we seem to as a community have our favorites (and those favorites overwhelmingly tend to be RPGs, both western and Japanese), and Starcraft 2 has never once looked like becoming one of them.

Did this community even have it in the discussion at any point when talking about 2010's Game of the Year? I'd managed to completely forget it existed, so infrequently is it mentioned here.
