Well, I did tell myself that, if it was ever released on Blu-Ray, I would buy the original Tenchi Muyo series... I did, and I still love the hell out of it... I also went back to rewatch The Legend of Zelda series, since the complete season was given to me for my birthday one time... It's laughable, at best...

Some things sucked and some things didn't... Any DC/WB animated show in the 90s still holds up today, for the most part... and I'm still wishing for a complete box set of Ed, Edd, n Eddy... Then again, these days, I'm mostly telling myself that this animated show either ended too soon (Motorcity) or should not have moved completely to the main station's side station (Gravity Falls) for "reasons" or something like that...

Can't think of anything. I still think The Muppets, Rocko's Modern Life, Doug, Hey Arnold, Angry Beavers, Pete & Pete, Ghostsweeper Mikami, Ranma 1 1/2, Dragon Ball (NOT Dragon Ball Z), Pokemon and Rurouni Kenshin are awesome. I guess Ranma is silly, but I already knew that when I was little.

Yes, many things you liked as a kid suck, but you also need to remember that as you get older your interests change as well. Of all the things I loved watching as a kid, there's only very few I can return to with the same enthusiasm, eventhough I enjoyed my time with nearly all of them. And it's not because they suck-.. well, some of them do, but it's mainly because most of them were aimed at children. And I grew out of that.

As a kid I loved Dragon Ball Z, but going back and watching it the dubs are unfathomably bad. I can't believe I couldn't tell how stiff the acting was.
If you're ever feeling nostalgic for it, go watch the Team Four Star [http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamFourStar] version. Its the same story, except with far better writing (well, starting about fourish episodes in. the first couple are rough), and much snappier editing.

As for the rest, it depends on which things. Batman:TAS and Pete and Pete, for example, still hold up quite well, and in some cases have extra dimensions that weren't obvious as a kid.

Other things... not so good. And sadly, the TMNT cartoons are one of them. Likewise for the second movie, but the first one actually holds up a bit.

This come to my mine-
I used to loved it as a kid but yet again Dinosaurs are popular with children.

Anyway when I looked back at the trailer, it look so lame and sucky! It just look so low budget which I should of knew when I saw the cartoon they used in the film (it look like a low budget Flintstone/ Ren and Stimpy wannabe)!

For me...not really, actually.

Trapdoor is still good, still watch old Doctor Who, hell, still read old White Dwarfs.

However, any franchise which is still going that was big when I was young is almost guaranteed to be awful.

No they didn't suck. Look in 20 years, kids that watch adventure time are going to look back and say: " ugh , i can't belive i liked that, it was so horrible" ( even though most people now will tell you it's a good show) and then you'll have some dude screaming about nostalgia goggles or some nonsense to look cool on the internet.

They were good and don't belive anyone that say it's because of nostalgia. It's because you're taste change as you grow up. As i kid i hated grapefruit juice , now i love it, my tastes changed.

Hmmmm most of what I enjoyed as a kid still holds up to me in so me way; Earthworm Jim is still insane and hilarious for example. Most of the super hero cartoons hold up though I haven't rewatched the spiderman one, X-Men and Batman do hold up.

The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is a weird one, it doesn't hold up iin the same way, but it's still weird and enjoyable.

I don't hold Dragonball in the same regard nowadays though.

They dont suck, just you have out grown it. Your an adult. Might as well say building blocks sucked when you got to 13, though you remember loving them at 2. Everything i watched as a kid sucks now because im an adult, kiddy cartoons and movies are just boring.

How can I be sure that Batman the Animated Series is just as good as my memory thinks it was?
Fortunately, I can assure you that it is as good as you remember, having watched it again quite recently.

The X-Men animated series, on the other hand... oh my. It has not aged well. It really didn't help that we watched Batman: TAS back-to-back with X-Men, and while the former holds up brilliantly, the latter just isn't very good. It was pretty heartbreaking.

I watched Dragonball Z religiously while I was a kid. I had another look at it a couple of years ago out of curiosity, and I found it almost unwatchable. Found myself spending most episodes yelling at the characters to DO SOMETHING ALREADY.

While I do believe some things stay good and some things just work better for kids there is one thing I finally realized today that did suck. The One Piece english theme song, I assume 4kids made it since it is a terrible childish rap.

Though Brock narrates the opening so that is something.

All the things I liked when I was a kid sucked. Captain Planet, Sailor Moon, Scooby Doo, Transformers, so many cheesy, stupid things that I now look at and want to flail myself.

I'm actually having completely the opposite experience: I've been cautiously re-watching all the things that defined my childhood expecting them not to have stood the test of time, only to be pleasantly surprised. In fact, in several cases I actually love the show/movie/whatever more now that I'm an adult and can pick up on things I missed the first time round.

Recent examples include Buffy the Vampire Slayer (now firmly re-established as my favourite TV show of all time), Star Trek Voyager, Deep Space Nine and TOS, a whole bunch of Disney movies, and the 1968 BBC radio adaptation of The Hobbit.

Maybe I got lucky, or maybe I just had damn good taste as a kid, but it's been a fantastic few months for me in terms of nostalgia.

The original Dragon Ball totally holds up, and is a classic, so does the manga of Z, but the Z anime is so badly drawn out it's terrible, it's still a good anime, but it's painfully slow to sit through, especially when I can happily sit through huge marathons of One Piece, which is an absolutely astonishingly long anime that also suffers from pacing issues in anime (not manga, manga is absolutely fucking brilliant), but at least it covers it up with a great story.

There are lots of things I liked as a kid that probably aren't good now, but I did have pretty awesome taste in games. Metroid Prime, Paper Mario: TTYD, Soul Calibur II, F-zero GX, etc. I love all of these games even today.

Megaman the TV Show, Pokemon the TV show, Sonic the Hedgehog TV show

As a kid growing up I really enjoyed the movie "Signs", though it's not a terrible movie, the plot isn't really that intelligent. Love the music though.

In my teenage years I listened to a lot of music that I really don't care for much today. (Jimmy Eat World, Lifehouse, Coldplay)

As for games, I still regularly play a lot of the games I grew up with.

A lot of the things I liked as a kid had to do with cartoons and since I grew up in the 90s we had plenty of good ones. Even when they were terrible I am actually pretty good at still enjoying them. I realize Dragon Ball Z is awful but I'm still a huge fan of it for example. The only thing I couldn't do was when i noticed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was on Netflix. After about two episode it felt like I had a migraine.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I remember watching a lot of full house when I was little, but I don't remember ever thinking it was good. For the most part I don't recall really liking anything that doesn't hold up. Although I did used to like Secret of Nimh, more than I do now.

I used to wonder this. Are modern cartoons, films, and television shows really worse than they were when I was a kid? Was my childhood really as good as I remembered?

Yes. Yes it was. I went on a huge 90's bender and found that literally everything was, not only as good as I remebered, but much better. Digimon Tamers (aka evangelion for kids)? Fucking awesome. Hey Arnold? Fucking awesome. DBZ? Slowly paced awesomness. Batman The Animated Series? Super fucking awesome. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and alternative rock? Fucking awesome.
