Did they ever fix Saints Row II?

I've heard that the PC port of Saints Row II is absolutely hideous, due to terrible stuttering and pop-in. I really want to try it out and I don't have a console but I am wary because of the reported problems. Does anyone know if SRII ever got fixed on PC or do issues still abound?

Thanks for the help!

Officially, no. But you can use IdolNinja's Powertools (here [http://saintsrowpowertools.com/]) to fix the speed-up problem. It works adequately, as long as your CPU is same speed or faster than the one XBox 360 has.

Not everyone will have the same issues. I had very little problem with it, overall. (Running XP64 here)

For me, the stuttering and lag issues were pretty much non-existant unless I was driving one of the really fast cars. This made certain chase sequences eh....difficult, to say the least. Especially that one where you hop on a superbike to chase some asian guy. I preferred the cop car anyway, since it wasn't fast enough to have problems but still faster than most vehicles, and also had a siren to make people GTFO. XD

Strangely, my sound came out of only the left speaker. I don't think I've heard of anyone else with this problem.

I do recommend getting the official patch for SR2 though, it adds widescreen support.

I think it says a lot about the game that despite its technical problems I loved it enough to get Saints Row 3. I still have both installed actually.

On a newer computer you really should have no problem, I was able to run in on my 3 year old computer just fine.

I didn't have any issues with SR2 I bought off steam, other than the cars turning left and right being really unresponsive.

As far as I know, there is no official patch for the clunky frame rate, so you are going to have to use a homebrew kit. I also recommend you to use a Gamepad if possible.

I'm pretty sure the issues happen on a case-by-case basis. I played the unpatched version years ago without any issues whatsoever, for instance. But even if you happen to be one of the unlucky I believe IdolNinja's patch fixes most of problems.

I snagged it a few months ago on steam and didn't run into any performance issues. Only a few graphical glitches. The menu system also sucked but I still really enjoyed the game.

I have a rather powerful mashine (i5 quad, 4 gb DDR and all that shenenigans) and the game was unplayable. Try playing decent at near double the speed ingame.

Saints Row 2 is by all standards one of the worst PC ports that ever hit the market. All the things it does better to SR3 can be thrown overboard if I can't play it (unlike SR3).
What version of Windows are each of you running? I heard somewhere that most of SR2's problems were on Vista/7 systems. If so, it makes sense that I had very little trouble on XP.

I ran it on XP and Vista with compatibility mode set to XP.

Have you bought the game? You know there are some stable versions of the game if you willing to "look" for them -wink wink nudge nudge-

The game is absolutely worth playing. It is in my opinion as many others the best of the Saints Row series.
