And everyone sniffs the manuals of new games.
Well, insane people do, anyway.

I'm just glad this whole Zynga vs. Valve thing is over. Just one more match up, and March Madness can be over and done with.
The next match up is going to be significantly less exciting.

Looks like it's going to be down to Valve vs Bioware for the final showdown. My two favourite developers. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to choose between them.

lets stay on topic people. Yes Valve won so far, but the twitter votes have not been counted, and I don't see how people think they can predict how that will come out.

Steam is essentially a cleverly disguised DRM and money making machine, devised by Valve so that people can't steal their material.
... Well, uh, steam games are commonly released as pirate copies often before their actual street date. So... steam failed?

If you had ever read a standard EULA (that started coming with console games about halfway through last generation) you'd know that you never had any rights to the product. Ever.

Steam changed exactly dick beyond making a few otherwise completely oblivious people slightly more aware of the aforementioned. Which confused a lot of people into thinking valve/steam was actually doing something new (apart from the whole digital thing obviously).

Why do I find myself quoting south park? Just because someone writes an article thats posted on a website doesn't mean he knows anything about what hes talking about.
Yes you can pirate Steam single player games, but not multiplayer ones, which make up nearly all of their roster. On top of that they are a lot harder to crack than other games, leaving tons of problems for those who download the cracked version.

As for Shamus Young's articles, that is your opinion.

went to bed last night and the thread is overrun and no one can get in

does anyone know if the vote counter was ever fixed and if there is any chance valve made a comeback?
Valve has won it currently they just need to tally up twitter votes which are nearly all Valve's so...

Well, right now, Valve has a 3000 vote lead. So, unless 3000 voters did something to have their votes not count, Valve has done it. :)

For me, it wasn't as much "Valve vs Zynga" as much as it was "Those assholes beat Square? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH DIE!"

It looks like it. Personally, I don't get what the big deal is. It's just a poll used to attract new users.
Well for most of the people who this is a big deal it was a bit of a point of honour as most don't see Zynga as a proper games dev sure they make social flash apps for Facebook but that is all they are seen as and not proper games. Besides if they were putting in Zynga then why not Armor games Miniclip or others like them?

Thats not true either, as lan emulation programs (hamachi) effectively sidestep that as well. Steam games are pirated out the ass and played online... out the ass.

And I'm not saying, "the mans a tosser," I'm saying hes completely misinformed about steam, digital distribution, and your rights as a gamer.

The reality is, officially, you never had rights as a gamer. Steam (and digital distribution in general) do absolutely nothing to change this. They don't make it better or worse. They simply brought distribution methods to be more in line with the hilariously draconian copypaste EULA. The fact he spouted anything to the contrary at all means he is, irrefutably, misinformed.
Yes I know about LAN emulation and it isn't even worth mentioning. There are cracked servers set up for those people to play on and they are riddled with hackers and bugged like fuck.

The argument about Experienced Points etc, isn't worth having with me. You should PM him to tell him he is misinformed, so that the misinformation isn't spread anymore. If you honestly value good information then you will make sure he stops spreading (as you call it) uninformed nonsense.

For the sake of convenience, people are trading in their freedoms.

Read some Experienced Points articles. There's just so many things wrong with Digital distribution.
So I'm not just an old fogey for insisting on having a physical copy of any game I get?
Nope.
You are an old fogey though. XD
Plus I like having a disk and manual. Love sniffing the manuals.

OT: I have heard Valve is winning but can't confirm as my internet made of string and silly putty can't handle it.
Mmmmmm, new manual smell... Like new car smell, but better.

Shit I shouldn't have voted for Valve now, Digital Distribution is a thousand times worse then say, buying a retail Ubisoft game, where you get priced gouged and pray Ubisoft won't go out of business or else you can't connect to their servers for offline games that are completely useless(hint, it's an offline game, people play by themselves, so they can fool the system into making them think their on computer is the Ubisoft Server, whereas if you do that with an online game you won't be able to play with other people[except other pirates])

Digital Distribution will ruin gaming. Virtual Farming will just steal peoples money.

Now if you excuse me, my tomatoes are ready.
But... I don't understand. I can buy a game and install it straight to my computer. With no tax, no gas money, no human interaction whatsoever. Plus deals. Also, at least Valve makes quality games...
