Skipped classes to go to the mall afew times. Slipped out during pep rallies and other crap like that, just hung out with friends a-ways from school. Walked out of a class once when the teacher pissed me off. My last year, one of the last days. We did make up though, I was friends with the guy. So if skipping counts yeh plenty.
Would never just quit though.

No but I might as well have.
It was during the immigration laws were being passed.

The whole school walked out, it was only like five people who didn't leave my class. It happened really fast. I didn't agree with the law but I didn't see how me going to jail just so they can accuse my parents of being illegal (they aren't).

I staid in class with four other people including the teacher. We all looked at each other, shrugged and since we were on lock down we just watched a lot of R rated movies (I was in middle school) threw shit at each other and did no work at all.

All of my friends where arrested...I ate cupcakes that other teachers gave us from the teacher's lounge....

I don't walk out of school unless something is very effed up and it will actually make a difference other than not shutting down the school from lack of funds.

^pretty much this for me as well^
Any time there was a mandatory "school spirit" event, I'd be sure to miss it.
...and then I'd be back for work a few hours later... my first job was with the school district...

many times, but then again, you could sign yourself out of school if your grades were high enough and had permission.

but illegally (you're truant if you do it in the US), I did once. I didnt care for the way a teacher had insulted me, so I told him to bend over so I could shove that yard stick he hit us with up his ass and try and dig out the stick thats already in it and he tried to give me a whack from the yard stick, but i was a bit too quick for him. so now, firmly embarrassed that I'm making him look like an ass (well, more of one), he said I could either get in line witht he rest class or I could get the hell out.

so I quoted cartman and said screw you guys, I'm going home, and left. Wound up with two days detention.
is it even legal in the US to discipline student,s that way?

I'd imagine so. I remmber in elementary school the principal had a large rough (it wasnt shaved down or anything, so it was easy to get splinters) wooden paddle (about a foot wide by a foot and a half long and a good 5 inches thick) with metal around the edges and holes drilled in the center so air resistence was cut down when it was swung.

Every year on the first day of school you were showed it,a nd then you were given a small folder to take home that had a picture of what it looked like, a list of the rules and the "acceptable" punishments for them the school was allowed to take, and a small pink card that scared the living shit out of any kid whose parents signed it, cause that was the permission for the principal to give you the paddle, and a cyan blue slip that said any punishment could be rectified by the paddle.

And I only just graduated last year, so its probably still in effect, though I know the cyan blue slip was removed, and the paddle was resized (now its only about 6 inches long by 4 inches wide by 3 inches thick), shaved down so its smooth, and the metal was taken off. Something about kids crying that it was getting too rough and they felt their asses were chafed from the raw edge of the wood.

... Holes are still there though.

Only if there was an optional rally or something like that. I never went to those, because they all ended up being a bunch of teachers going in front of the whole school and acting like idiots. Bad puns, unoriginal games, absolute shit music throughout, and being surrounded by the idiots that were the SHS sophomore class? No thanks.

Same here.

*Announcements* - "There will be an assembly for the last two hours of school today, please attend."

I acted as though I would go, but really, I left and went home. Hargh hargh.
