It's a little silly for me but I always wanted to become a blacksmith (not sure if this is a dying profession but I don't see a lot of them, do you?). The reason for this was to make my own cool stuff like a suit of armor or swords but I also realize that their are very few jobs for true blacksmiths in today's world.
So how about you my fellow escapist? Have you ever wanted to go into a dying profession just for the coolness factor?
It's not a dying profession. I dare to say there has been a blacksmithing renissance recently. You can do tons of different things from making armor and swords that sell better than in the last 3 centuries nowadays to making sculptures or just every day use items like chairs or fences.

If you're good at something (except maybe picking your nose), there will always be people who'll pay good money for your work.
What about picking other peoples noses would someone pay for that?

I agree. I did want to become a blacksmith, but due to my high blood pressure issues, I can't work in heat for long.

But a blacksmith isn't just swords, armors and other medieval/feudal Japanese stuff. It's also metal decorations, high-quality crafts and collector items, for weapon freaks like myself.

well I know that (the armor and swords was for me). I know they make other stuff like specially designed metal stuff for things around the house.

What about being a wheel tapper?
That would have been a sweet job mainly because it is so easy.
You go around tapping train wheels to make sure they aren't split back when they use to make them out of cast iron (i think?) because when they are cracked they make a different sound then uncracked.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a doctor because I heard of house calls and what that usually meant if it was a single woman dialing it in. 7 years later I still want to be one because it seems like a great use of a life.

When I was a teenager I wanted to be a vampire hunter. Now I'm more interested in dressmaking.

I think you misunderstood the question, I said dying profession not "killing" profession.

A vigilante is a person who does good deeds for no other reason then to do them a.k.a. like Batman but without all the cool gadgets.....
