I like the series, too. Each game was unique, but still similar to one another in terms of gameplay and story. Resistance 3 is probably the best because it stands out in general by being a AAA FPS that incorporated a more classic FPS feel and gameplay by ditching rechargeable shields and being able to carry around all your guns.

R1 had a really fun campaign and lots of great weapons and moments

R2 is only good for multiplayer and co op

Haven't played R3 but it looks great

Been playing a bit of the psp one and its pretty good. Anyone else played it?

Forgive my ignorance, but what does MMS mean here? I've been looking at your post for minutes and can't figure it out.

It means Modern Military Shooter which is a new term used to describe games like COD

I only managed to play the first one before the PS3 had it's breakdown, but I did like it. It wasn't my favourite game, but it was fun. Somewhat controversially, I preferred it to Killzone by quite a way.

Also, I'm not saying I have a problem with the popular cities a lot of games are set in, but it was nice to be going through places like Nottingham and Grimsby (which I still maintain looked nicer after the changes the aliens made).

Resistance 1 was barrels of fun with co-op and a nice refresher to have more than 2 guns at a time.
Resistance 2 made me cry cause it was shit on a cheesy biscut. Online was nice though.
Resistance 3 was a return to the glory of Resistance 1 with fun campaign and co-op, with the good online from 2. A rare case of the 3d game actually learning from the faults of the previous games.

Then again we are dealing with Insomniac games who are known for actually listening to their critics and fixing things that don't work.

I think its a pretty good series made up of a couple great (and one not so great) games.
The first one I really liked. The weapons all felt interesting and fun enough to use (even the shotgun and carbine), all had actual uses for different situations. The story was practically non-existent but what was there I found interesting.

The level design was pretty fantastic even though it was a bit too brown and grey.

Second game was not so bueno imo. It looked really pretty but the story kind of went from sparse but interesting to silly and at some parts stupid. Some of the new guns were interesting but not really as interesting as the ones from the first.
The multiplayer was good but I genuinely preferred the multiplayer in the first, maybe cuz I was better at the first but whatever. And the lack of splitscreen campaign kinda grinded my gears the wrong way since my one ps3 owning friend and I loved the first games co-op campaign.

I haven't played 3 yet but I've heard amazing things about it and once I get through a few more games in my "Games to buy" list R3 will be next.

The first one was fun but hasn't really stuck with me. The enemy design was pretty cool though and I enjoyed it enough to go through the campaign a second time on a higher difficulty.

The second was a mixed bag. I liked some of the set pieces and the campaign in general wasn't bad but not brilliant either. I really enjoyed the co-op online but the competetive is a little unbalanced in places which spoils the fun a bit.

I will get the third one at some point but right now I haven't played it.

I think the series is aright. First game is borderline last-gen in terms of presentation, but it also has a great health system and fantastic weapons (with no carry limit). Second game drastically updated the visuals but (disappointingly) implemented regenerating health and a two-gun carry limit. Third game marries the current-gen visuals of R2 with the superior gameplay of R1. If you can get them cheap, they're worth playing. They even tossed me a few narrative curveballs (ending of R2, midpoint of R3) I honestly didn't see coming.

I absolutely adored the first, but felt the second completely fucked up everything that was good about it.

The first had a brilliantly oppressive atmosphere. The graphics where fittingly old timey, with a perfectly simple color palette.

The plot was wonderfully mysterious, giving the enemies a real sense of threat, as you had no idea what might be coming next.

I loved how the story was told through what felt like after action reports, with a nearly silent main character.

Finally, I've never seen a modern game that can claim the astounding variety of weapons and enemies Resistance 1 could. Swarms of crawly fuckers to regular soldiers to massive hulking cannon platforms to giant dogs to HUGE fucking spiders PLUS 2 types of vehicles with their own whole thing. In terms of weapons, from the Splitter to the Auger to the Carbine, every single one was interesting, fun to use and useful in its own unique situation. The grenades even deserve special mention. The grenades that deployed gas and lit it for a giant fireball and the grenades that literally deployed a field that turned every shot toward its shooter are my favorite.

2 just made the aesthetic identical to over other bright looking game, made the protagonist talk his ass off and made the guns all feel weak, while only allowing you to carry 2 of them.

3 was a bit better with the infinite weapons and whatnot, but it still suffered badly as a result of the aesthetic and narrative changes.

I could gush about 1 some more, but I think you get the idea. One of my favorite games of all time.

Picked up 1 & 2 at gamestop the other day, since they're crazy cheap on sale. ($1.50 for one, $3.00 for two.)

I've only played the very beginning of 1, and it's pretty 'meh.' I know it was a launch title, and MAN does it show. It's pretty much a generic PS2 WWII shooter with aliens.

I don't like the "push the stick in for fine aim" thing. I changed the binding to L1, but it still throws me off, since it's a toggle, rather than hold-to-aim...

I enjoyed the games very much. Resistance: Fall of Man was the first game I ever played where I was not the only person shooting on my team. And that final level wasn't just me against the entire army, but my army verses their army. No other shooter has ever had the nerve to not send you in solo for the final mission. While two tripped and fell on its face, it raised some very, very interesting plot points for future games. Then three came out and...the plot just fell apart. The greater plot was hinted at in a few of the collectables, but nothing was ever done with it. And then Insominac gave away the series and I doubt we'll ever get to see it again.
