Did you lurk before joining The Escapist?

In between waiting for the new Zero Punctuation, yeah. I lurked a whole lot.

It was actually seeing the interactions between members that made me want to join up. All the buddy-buddy "exclusion" crap people always ***** about nowadays. I saw people sharing private jokes and shit and thought "hey, I want to be a part of that".
It took me a while to build up the courage. All of these awesome people having a great time. I join in, and I'm just going to fuck the whole thing up. You know how it is.
Of course, I was right in the end. I tried to join in on the interactions and I just made an ass of myself. Frankly, I wish I'd never bothered.

Still here, though. I've made quite an evolution in the past two years. It actually annoys the fuck out of me to read my earliest posts.
It's okay, we all have our moments. I feel very welcome at the Escapist, but I am not really getting into much of the interactions. XD

I lurked for a long time, got bored and decided to sign up. But I rarely post anywhere, only if it interests me.

I was lurking for awhile, watching ZP and reading the occasional thread. Then I decided to comment one day. Thus, I have a stupid username because I thought of it in only a few minutes and had just been watching YouTube Poop.

I hung around the escapist for about a year before joining. I remember I joined because I was sick of not saying anything on the forums.

For about a week after discovering the escapist.

Mostly because it took me 3 days to come up with a name.

I was apart of another site that was lowly dieing. seriously. there was only like 3 people other than me. and 1 of the members was a complete jerkbag to me. she threatened to kill me once or twice.

after deciding i needed a healthier community I went searching for other video game forums.

I was introduced to Yahtzee at first by my older brother. I lurked around escapist just watching zero punctuation until I saw how great a forum community you guys had to compared the graveyard i was apart of. thus, here I am!

I lurked for a while after discovering ZP, then registered and began rapid-fire posting so as not to look like a boob, which resulted in me not getting a welcome post.

Yup. I didn't lurk for long, probably only about a month and that would only be on Wednesdays when I came here for ZP but eventually I must have found a topic that interested me enough so I figured I would join.

That's because they don't happen anymore.

Most of the older members have moved on. Threads stay on the straight and narrow. Ones that don't rerail are locked. The people who are friends and constantly pal it up are labelled egotistical pricks, circle-jerking left, right and centre. The Escapist is far too SRS for in-jokes and pointless fun. We must all remain respectable and proper.

It has, most likely, always been like this. I'm just feeling the effects now because all the starry-eyed nonsense has long passed.
And by "long", I mean since like two months after I joined.
Hopefully it lasts longer for you.

Sure did.

Maybe for a few months before I joined up and became active.

What made me become active? Boredom.
This.
Zero punctuation brought me here.

Well thanks for being a lil' more optimistic towards my future (no sarcasm). Well, whatever happens, happens. Well I'm still a newbie so hopefully it'll be a while till I'm cynical because I realize that the things you are saying will probably be true for me too. But I like to hope against that idea.

What do you mean, before joining. I still lurk upon occasion, mainly because I will rarely find a reason for me to write. One day, I did. So I joined, and haven't really found a reason to write often still.

Good job on causing me to do so. XD

Not really. I came here to watch the videos and read the articles before I joined, but during that time I didn't spend any time on the forums. Shortly before I decided to join, I did lurk for a short time just to see what the general mood and level of discourse was but I wouldn't call that lurking so much as just seeing if it was worth my time.
