I played them as RTS battles, and while this was very much doable, it wasn't all that fun. The only time I'd come to the ground was when the enemy leaders was wrecking havoc.
I found it rather hard to successfully flank the enemy too, due to the lacking controls for this. Yet I still came out on top every single time by sheer strategical superiority, and a huge death toll, spilling blood over every inch of sand gained.
I did however understand this wasn't the way to play, and that you should just lead the battle and be the first to hack away at the enemy. I played one battle this way, and found that I died pretty quickly like this, despite it being immensly more easy then the classing RTS approach. That said, I found more satisfaction in winning with the classic RTS approach, since it required more tought and was a tad harder.
