Stage battles took a few tries to get but I enjoyed it regardless. All in all I wanted to summon 2 lazer panthers...the mastodons were kinda lame.

I would say I tolerated them I guess. I thought it was cool if a bit messy to work with. Everything else about that game was killer, so I forgave it.

I understood them but didn't like them, so I kinda just got through and didn't think about them much and enjoyed the rest of the game

I played them as RTS battles, and while this was very much doable, it wasn't all that fun. The only time I'd come to the ground was when the enemy leaders was wrecking havoc.
I found it rather hard to successfully flank the enemy too, due to the lacking controls for this. Yet I still came out on top every single time by sheer strategical superiority, and a huge death toll, spilling blood over every inch of sand gained.

I did however understand this wasn't the way to play, and that you should just lead the battle and be the first to hack away at the enemy. I played one battle this way, and found that I died pretty quickly like this, despite it being immensly more easy then the classing RTS approach. That said, I found more satisfaction in winning with the classic RTS approach, since it required more tought and was a tad harder.

I loved Brutal Legend, every minute of it. Not my usual type of RTS but its a console game - what did people expect? Yes, it was a little bit fiddly, especially the last stage, but was no worse than some other games I've played. Plus the standard hacky slashy was fun, story was epic and with some great voice acting from metal legends.

It's a bit clumsy, trying to manage and control an RTS style army and engage in hack and slash combat with enemies at the same time.

I understood the battles, it was all just a bit awkward to play.
