Did you want Desmond to be the next protagonist of an AC game?

I'm not sure about you, but I'm getting sick of the animus. Wasnt the whole point of AC 2 to train up Desmond as an assassin? Now he's back amongst the world of the living, surely it's time for AC: Desmond?

I'd be more inclined to say yes if Desmond wasn't such an incredibly boring character. Besides, I don't know how well AC's mechanics would work in a modern day setting.

I think that it should be taken in that direction, but I don't know how they're going to work the standard HUD into the series without the animus. I know it sounds nitpicky, but that was always explained in the previous games as being that way, since you had the HUD while controlling ancestors in the animus but you didn't have one while playing as Desmond.

Desmond serves as a decent enough vehicle to connect the assassins story. But on his own? God no.

I wouldn't mind Desmond being the main character of an AC game on the condition that he never talk. Ever. Like, have an accident with the Animus that fuses his mouth shut or something, I don't care. I just want to avoid that narrative pitfall of Desmond spending the game whining about his situation or, god help us, spouting "clever" one liners every other kill.

Exploring the characters and world around him would be neat. So long as Desmond acted as just a vehicle for that and had the presence of mind to shut up.

Please, NO. I'm done with Desmond and all his ancestors. Altair was generic, Ezio was fun until I got sick of him through overexposure, and Desmond is just dull. Can we go somewhere new in a next Assassin's Creed game, avoid eastern Europe entirely? America's got pretty diverse landscapes and climates, how about a little Tarzan-ish assassins in, say...Nicaragua? Climb trees instead of buildings, explore the Aztec empire at the height of it's power, something different. No more Knights Templar, no more ALIENS...

No thanks, we have enough games set in the present day already.

IMO, all the Desmond segments were a waste.

Not really. I wanted another awesome period in history. I wanted Victorian London, but when I think about it, American Revolution isn't bad. They've been working 3 years on this one. Surely they know what they're doing.

Let's see how they handle the next AC game then. I am sure it will be something neat.

Short answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. AC has always been about using Desmond and the modern setting as a set piece for the past part of the games. Desmond has no character, and is only meant to set things up. The real main characters are Altair, Ezio, and now Connor.

No.

I'm rather hoping that he dies or something before having to hold up an entire game on his own.

He's boring enough during the interludes. Imagine 30 hours of that.

There is really one main reason that playing Desmond would be rubbish.

Machine guns.

All the parkour in the world can't save you then.

Yes, I was really hoping for a whole game based around the ultimate badass assassin hero, Desmond "I'm just a bartender for Christ's sake!" Miles.

No, but seriously, I kinda would like to see a game based around Desmond just because he is supposed to be the protagonist of this whole fucking adventure, and you can't run away from that fact forever. Hopefully he'll manage to pick up some kind of a personality from the memories of one of his ancestors, but I'm not really counting on it.
