I was looking to import a Pokemon dsi back to the US when I noticed the absurd currency conversion rate. You basically pay 50$ for a single DS game, wtf? A simple dsi system, you end up paying 185$ for what should be 150$ or 93.5£. I decided to just go without since in the end it'd be over 300$ just to import a dsi with 1 game. Sorry UK, that sucks. No way they'd ever get 50$ out of me for a DS game.

It's just as bad in Australia.

I guess that's one more yank who can stop complaining about game prices.

You get alot of deals over here. I got peace walker for £15 off amazon on release, whereas most GAME stores had it for £29.99

I know its a different console, but the same applies to the DS, I just couldnt think of any recent evidence considering I dont play my ds anymore

You let your government do it to you.

I don't see why you paying more means I should just roll over and accept prices continuing to rise, even as they sell more and more copies.

DS games is probably the worst example you could have picked. I have no idea why the price of them is so high here. 3DS games are already on sale for pre-order at an RRP of about 65 dollars each, which is more than we'd pay for 360 or PS3 games.

The problem is that in fact the US-Dollar is fucking cheap and that for years. For me as a german, it its about nearly 50% cheaper to import a book from the US than buying it here.
Youre economy just is still down and recovers pretty slow atm.Thats why importing is damn expensive for you and for that reasons our exports to the US are decreasing.
Seriously a book i can buy here for 10 euros is about 6 euros after importing it.
So in short, you are getting it wrong. Its not the UK having it SO bad. its actually pretty much you. (plus that the UK prices on games are a little about average sometimes)

Thinking about it, if you buy online from a UK store and you're outside the European Union, you don't have to pay VAT. The prices you see on almost all UK sites (apart from sites selling direct to the trade) show prices inclusive of VAT, which currently stands at 20%, so if you're an American, you can shop on Amazon.co.uk and pay 20% less than a British person shopping on Amazon.co.uk (not including shipping and any import taxes the US may charge of course).

Actually I tried amazon. It says "We're sorry. Your order contains items that may not be shipped to the selected destination. Please select another address."

aren't DS games already at about $50 a game?? i'm confused o_O
In Canada they range from 25 dollars to 40 dollars before sales tax, which is 13% here. this is assuming the game is brand new and depending on Title or publisher.

We don't have a choice man. The government, or whoever else is taking that extra slice of the pie, won't listen to us.

The you in that post wasn't exclusive to you. I mean that collectively. It takes more then one voice to change things, but at the same time nothing will ever change until someone speaks out first.

Not that this is something to get up in arms about, not to me at least, but at the end of the day the people control the government not the other way around.

I actually buy most my games on amazon UK, because they´re usually about 20-30 euros cheaper, plus they´re always in english (logically).

From the steroetypical "bloody yank" view that is projected on me and other Americans, I would laugh at your misfortune. But I, unlike the sterotype, feel for you, the people of Britain and all the other "Queenie" nations. I live in California, where taxes are rediculous, espically the sales tax. Kinda got off topic there but I have to agree, prices like that are rediculous.
