No of course sex isn't everything to life. It would be bloody idiotic to say so. But the kid was going to die (presumably very soon) and he wanted to experience something that he'd never get to do otherwise.

Some of those comments made me very angry.

So what if, if it was posted 2001? :/

Doesn't mean we can't argue about giving the kid his last wish even if it's like this.

I've never been more proud to be an Australian. That is totally what I would have done. I tip my hat to this kid's grave.
You don't deserve a hat if that makes you proud.
Disregard things I say when they sound cruel, it's just that kid was cheated into thinking that life's true fulfilment was sex.
I guess your a virgin
No, I'm not. Wasted insult. Also, learn to spell. Honestly. You have a seriously disillusioned view of life, by the way.
Wait a minute, he has a disillusioned view of life because YOU believe that this kid was "cheated into thinking that life's true fulfilment was sex?" First off, no where, in any article pertaining to this subject was it ever said that this kid believed this to be the pinnacle of all existence. He was 15, and he'd never had the opportunity to meet, attract, even kiss a girl. The prospect of him ever having sex at that point was pretty much zilch. I think even you can attest that, while sex isn't the end-all-be-all, it is in fact one of life's great physical pleasures. He wasn't tricked into asking for sex, so who are you to say he was cheated? Maybe he just wanted a beautiful, intimate experience before he passed.

Grow up and quit being such a prude. Also, quit needlessly attacking others for voicing their opinion. His virgin response wasn't the most witty, but you seem to forget that you started the whole encounter.
I don't even know who the hell he is, he just comes up and posts "i guess your a virgin" out of nowhere, which means he does think it's the pinnacle of all existence.
But anyway, I lost the plot of this argument a long time ago, what am I a prude about again?
Sorry if I seem cold and cruel and insulting, that's just me sometimes.

The moment I read the title of this thread I knew the kid wanted to lose his virginity, which is why I say this: Is that so weird?

5 things I'd rather have than this kid's wish
1: Sex with someone I love
2: Sex with someone I care about
3: Sex with someone I love and someone I care about
4: The chance to do the Thriller with Barack Obama, Kim Jon Il, Meagan Fox, and Yahtzee
5: Beat Tetris

I think the time has passed to argue wih you guys, I will now simply say... It is a shame he did not have the experience with the girlfriend he should have had.
Wow... I think you should get off your high horse, mate. You seem oblivious to the fact that there must be a material consideration for any sort of 'make a wish' deal such as this. What good is it for the lad to wish for a girlfriend with whom he can make 'true' love to? He may as well have wished he didn't have cancer.

Sure, there are more important things than mere sex. A loving family and friends, fulfillment in your work and leisure/hobbies, etc. But for you to act like this guy could have used his 'wish' to experience any of these things shows a massive ignorance on multiple levels.

To wish for an experience of sex is perfectly reasonable in my opinion. Even if love isn't involved, sex can be a great fun. I'm glad this fellow was able to have some fun in the life he had left to him, and I don't think anyone should presume to deny him that.
What? I basically said it's a shame he had cancer and didn't live on to have the experience with a girlfriend, I didn't say anything about wishing for a girlfriend, "mate".
Sorry to the escapists again if I seem cruel and terrible, it's just the way I am sometimes.

Ethically, I agree with this. Simply put, if sex is what mattered to the boy, then sex is what matters. Any man deserves his last request, no matter how you put it. Yes, there is so much more to life than sex, but you also need to remember that there's so much more to life than anything. All of the little things that he could have asked for are no better or worse than sex.

So basically, I said it's a shame he had to die. Let's see SOME PEOPLE misinterpret that one, eh?

He's 15. No there isn't.
Well played, I suppose, but it's still a crying shame. If I hadn't seen the true face of life by now, I may have had tears for that boy. But life is more willing to remove its mask than it should be.
Biologically speaking, the meaning of life is to have sex and reproduce. Imagine you are a mayfly with a life span of only a few hours, all they do is have sex, babies and die.
There's the flaw in your argument. If humans were meant to only do things because of instinct and biology then rape and murder wouldn't be crimes.

I mean, if lifes about sex then it doesn't matter if you force someone to have it right? It's the meaning of life isn't it?

Obviously you were not suggesting people should rape, but my point is that humans have evolved beyond basic instincts (some of us), sex is the means to life not the meaning of it.

Whats so wrong with wanting to experience sexual intimacy before you die? We all experience it at one point in our long lives, this kids life was shortened. Makes sense to me, everyone else should mind their own business. Its not like he asked to hunt down men dressed like dear from a helicopter.
I agree, but I would respect the kid so much more if he had.

Hmmm, well I can't say it really surprises me. I guess once your older and the urgency goes out of it, you tend to forget how things were back then, especially when you've become jaded by the complexities of real relationships.

The whole thing vaguely reminds me of Adam Warren's "Empowered" where a terminally Ill young boy's dying wish is for the bondage prone "super heroine" of the title to let him tie her up so he can indulge his bondage fantasies. He of course manages to later to survive, become an uber-villain, and spares her due to her generosity later. :p

It also brings to mind the dying wish of "I'd like to have sex with ". Makes me wonder what would happen if someone approached say Meagan Fox and said "hey there is a dying 15 year old boy and all he wants out of life before dying is ..."

Still, I'm happy he got what he wanted especially if he was content with it. I hope he's at peace wherever he is.

I think that was a very human and understandable wish. Sex is one of the basic pleasures of life that he was never going to have access to, i am glad that he had such good friends.

Perhaps for you, but maybe for him, this is all he ever wanted. Kudos to him for being man enough to say exactly what he wanted!
