Has anyone had a diet that worked really well? I was recently at the doctor and she wanted me to lose 30 lbs. I currently weigh 235 lbs. and I have been trying really hard to lose weight and it just doesn't seem to work. I have been working out, better choices and smaller portions, but the weight just doesn't go away.

See-food diet. It's awesome! You should try it ;)

EDIT: Note to self, read the OP comment before answering... lmao

I'm afraid I can't help you, weighing a mighty 105 kilos. Quite a lot of muscle tho, but that could be be trying to feel better lol

I do have a bit of experience cutting weight for martial arts competitions, so I might as well throw in my 2 cents.

I like to eat omelettes with 2 eggs, 50g of ham, about 1/4 cup of shredded cheese, and a few handfuls of spinach.

Cottage cheese is also great for diets. Even when you need to lose weight, you should be getting some decent amounts of protein. The calories from cottage cheese are almost all protein, with a small amount of fat. If I want to eat something light an hour or two before bed, I'll have 250g of cottage cheese (about 12 teaspoons) and a slice of whole wheat bread to dip it in.

I've replaced cereal in my diet with canned soup, specifically with those 540ml cans that can fill about 2 bowls. Some soups are about 250 calories or less per (540mL) can. I usually have a sandwich on the side.

And I drink copious amounts of water (about 4-5 litres a day) and green tea (about 1-2 litres a day) with a teaspoon of honey) Green tea tastes damn good, helps make me feel full, and boosts my metabolism. The caffeine is about half of what coffee has.

Are you doing cardio or stuff like weight-lifting? And for how long have you been on the diet? 30 lbs. is a fair bit to lose so it's not going to go immediately.

Anyway, I'm 16 so I just eat what I want and occasionally work out. I was going to start swimming regularly though because a) I'm a terrible runner and b) my legs are too thin and weedy.

Tried this one for a while and it was pretty effective as long as I could follow it. But being in a country where the main foods here are pretty much the worst things for this diet, and having to eat the school lunches in that country every day, caused me to just quit it. While I was on it, though, combined with exercise, I lost a good 3 kg (about 6-7 lbs.) in two weeks.

honestly? taking the food you like/make, and throwing in some stuff that makes it healthier. depending on what your making depends on what you add. a few more herbs and seasoning's can't hurt either :p

oh, and 8-13h consistantly of martial arts over 6 days a week, and then 1 2h pure cardio work out ontop of all that, a week, dosen't hurt either :p might wear you down a little, but not hurt, much.

Diets are only handy for some quick weight loss, in the long run it just creates a yo-yo effect, which is completely worthless. What you need is a permanent change in your eating habits. You know what's the easiest and how I lost about 15 kg's?

[HEADING=1]EAT. LESS.[/HEADING]

Preferably with some more exercise as well. Really that's all there is too it. It isn't pretty or fun and it doesn't happen in the blink of an eye, but that's all you need to loose weight; burn more calories than you eat each day.

All I did was just eat a lot less crap and smaller portions during regular meals. Add some extra biking to that and voila; 15 kg's gone in about 6 months. Pretty proud of myself. Fast forward another 6 months including gym training and I cut down my fat percentage almost 10% (from about 25% to 17%) and added a lot more muscle. It's only going better ever since.

Loosing weight isn't complicated, staying healthy isn't either.

While I don't diet per-say, I try and limit my calorie intake to no more than 1500 a day (I'm a woman, so that's plenty).

If yer a guy, I would think 1500-2k is a target range (tho I am no doctor), so if you stuck with that and taking a 20 minute walk a day, you'll be doing yourself a world of good.

It's true that yer not going to see immediate results, but just by walking and limiting your intake (in good and "bad" ways, even), you'll gradually lose the weight you wish (and begin to feel better). It's not really healthy for you to lose more than 7-10 lbs a month anyway, so don't fret if you're "only" losing 5 lbs a month. Slow and steady is healthier (ie: you're not crashing your system) and it's a lot easier to keep off in the long run.

Personally, I find that if I eat a green (or chef, if you'd prefer)chef salad for lunch, or a yogurt and fruit, I can have something "good" for dinner (ie: veggie burger or pizza) and still stay within my calorie range for the day. PLus, I cut out most (not all) of my soda drinking if I'm looking to lose a couple of pounds. I like water, anyway, so it's not a HUGE change in my life. SOme people like to squeeze lemon or lime in their water, but I'm good with plain ol' water. ;B

Good luck, in any case! :) (And don't get discouraged if you don't look buff in a month!)

I have never been overweight exactly, but recently some choices I made for the sake of my health made me lose a stone (14lb) in weight - down from 9 stone (126lb) to 8 (112). Definitely it is the type of food you eat that makes the difference.

Now I'm pretty lazy when it comes to cooking, so I make one thing for dinner, and that's tomato pasta - made myself - with mushrooms, fresh tomatoes and spinach. That's a good start. Try and cut out meat, too.

For lunch I eat a lot of salad with pitta bread and houmous. But the most important things in losing the weight - I think - are the following factors:

1. When eating toast for a snack I only have one slice now instead of two.
2. When eating my pitta bread lunch I only have one pitta.
3. When preparing pasta I use a pasta measurer to ensure I have the right portion for my age/sex (24, female). This is a white plastic thing with holes in, and it measures the correct girth of spaghetti so you don't overeat.
4. For breakfast, eat yoghurt and muesli. SUCH a great choice. It's good for you, and it gets your digestive system in gear really fast.
5. Try to give up cheese. A little here and there is fine, but don't toss it all over everything.
6. Switch to brown bread/pasta.
7. Ignore calorie intake. As long as you're eating good food and not gigantic portions of it, you'll do fine. Getting obsessed with numbers is pointless.

Err. Go for a run.
I lost a stone in two weeks with a 1 - 2k jog every evening.
Don't blame the food/diets.
Eating won't solve your problem. Running will!
(I'd stay away from weights, as that will add muscle which will increase your weight. Just lose the 30lb first, then after you've been cleared, do some weights.)

I tried diets to gain weight, but apparently my body is unable to save energy. When I eat alot sugar I just can't sleep. When I eat fat nothing happens, same with proteines.

I should also note I got really sick so I had to stop playing football. I weighed about 250 lbs. and went down to 235 lbs. I spent more than a year lifting heavy weights and doing lots of cardio so I was in great shape. Then illness struck I got really weak and I haven't had the energy to work out on the level I'm used to so where my muscle was fat has replaced.

as long as you eat the right things and do the right exercise you should be able to lose weight, but it won't come off straight away, it is easier to put the weight on than it is to lose it.

just keep an eye on the calories and try and cut 500 off of the guided daily amount:

Average Women = 2300
Average Men = 3000
3500 Calories burned = 1 lb weight loss (14lb to the Stone)

If you wanted to know a closer estimate to how much your body burns in one day there are calorie calculators online that give you an estimate based off of your age, weight, gender, and height.

I actually used my basic metabolic rate which is around 1600-1800 calories a day and number of calories in one pound to my advantage and I lost 40 pounds through running and by cutting 250-500 calories out of my diet everyday.
