Yes, yes, bland title is bland, but it gets the job done. SO! The idea is this: pick an established universe, franchise, setting, however you want to say it, and you come up with an idea for a game that hasn't been done before in it. It doesn't even have to be a setting that has had games in it. Just try and come up with something you would find interesting.
My idea: A survival game set in the Star Wars universe. You play a standard grunt, scout, or other type of military personnel on a station somewhere out in the space-boonies when the station is attacked by enemy forces. Due to reasons, there are no reinforcements coming, supplies are limited, and the enemy takeover of the station is taking place at a snail's place. Not wanting to risk what soldiers they have left, command has decided to send individual soldiers on stealth missions into enemy territories to retrieve desperately needed rations and repair materials, and to commits acts of sabotage and reconnaissance.
In short, you, a lone, unspectacular person, have to sneak through areas teeming with enemies to retrieve items without being noticed. In addition to that, the enemy brought a nasty surprise with them: a Force-user (Jedi or Sith, take your pick). You can take on groups of two, maybe three enemy soldiers if you get the drop on them, and can even take out medium-sized groups if you gather enough supplies to set up a trap. But as soon as you hear a lone set of boots walking down the corridor, or hear the hum of a lightsaber, you'd better start running, because there's no way in hell you'll win that fight.
Now, as I wrote this I realized it sort of came across as an Outlast or Slender style game, where you wander around looking for items while being chased by an enemy you have no way of fighting, but I was thinking more Thief than survival-horror. There's horror in the situation, but it's more mundane horror, being in a hostile environment all on your own. I mean, I guess if you really wanted you could throw some rakghouls in there, but I'd rather we not bring zombies into this.
The game would have a large, at least somewhat open world split up into sections, each section controlled by one of the factions. You can head to friendly areas in order to rest, patch up your gear, and scrounge what little supplies they have left before heading off to enemy territory. As the game goes on, however, you'll find that more and more areas have been attacked by the Force-user and so belong to the enemy now. Eventually, so much ground is lost that the objective becomes finding a way to destroy and/or escape from the station.
There's my idea. I have others, namely a Mass Effect (or Dragon Age, I'm not picky) RTS and a cop game featuring Commissioner Gordon and her crew from Batman Beyond (though let's be honest, I'd be ecstatic about a Batman Batman Beyond as well). But what do you guys think? What are your ideas?
