Have you ever tried Modern Warfare 'No Fighting in the War Room' or 'Mile High Club' on Veteran? Those are the only two things where difficulty alone made me give up. I got through Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II eventually with practice, but those two levels simply cannot be done by mere men.

Regarding Dragon Age, I have two suggestions:
Get the DLC for the game. You get some sweet rewards for beating the DLC, which can make the game much easier. Selling that Golem's mace that you get gives you 350 gold, which allows you to buy some of the more powerful items.
Set the game on casual. This makes a world of difference in many of the boss fights.
Get Wynn. Have her learn Cleansing Aura. Have Morrigan become a Spirit Healer and have her learn that too. Amazing how much easier the game is when you don't have to worry about healing so much.

I actually gave up on both when I was trying to do the Veteran achievements. Ended up coming back about a week later and managed to get through both on my first try. Still, I never could repeat my success.

OT: Definitely the Expert runs in Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. I can play Advanced with bots and still manage to beat the level, but I've never been able to complete an expert campaign without failing at least 10-15 times.

Playing the original Mass Effect made me almost break a controller. When a Krogan charges on Insanity, there's about fuck-all you can do. Final level, running along the outside of the Citadel. He charges, nothing freaking stops him or takes him down. Nothing. So I just essentially spammed grenades until he stopped moving. Started over quite a few times.

Oh, and I might sound like a huge Poké-nerd saying this, but Whitney, the third gym leader in gold/silver? Or maybe it was the second? I don't recall, all I remember is a blinding amount of rage directed towards a Miltank and several hundred racial/gender obscenities in a battle that just ended with me burning through an asston of super potions and Ibuprofen.

I gave up COD: World At War Veteran on the first level.

Figured it wasn't worth the frustration (and this is from someone who got 1000GP in COD4).

I guess that makes me some kind of god then.

OT: Mass Effect 2 on Insanity was so frustratingly impossible. There was just so many sections where I would get stuck for ages only to finally get through it then get stuck 10 minutes later on another planet.

Thanks for reminding me. I hated that *****.

I'd have to go with the old GameBoy Megaman games. I never managed to beat them, the last levels were just too damn cheap. Unless you memorize everything there's a good chance you die, waste the ammo that's absolutely crucial to get to the next area, and eventually throw your GB out the window.

I never finished Demons Souls. It's hard, not outside my ability to finish however it is taxing at times and i'm impatient. I should probably hurry up seeing as the live servers will be shut down this year.

Dead Space 2 - Hardcore mode.

You can only save three times, and you have to restart at your last save if you die. WELCOME TO HELL.

I have beaten it. God hard mode, too.

It requires total focus and patience. In fact, with enough of both, no game is too difficult...unless it is deliberately designed to be impossible. The rush and sense of satisfaction from beating ultra-difficult games is unbeatable. For me, so many popular modern games fail in this regard, and subsequently get recycled.

Similar to this, except earlier in the game. The opening rumble of Peak 15 on Noveria where you fight 3 Krogan was the hardest part of Insane for me, I'll readily admit that I got past it with a generous amount of luck. I had several tries where the fucker just charged at me and got in close before I could kill him, at which point it was: shotgun>bang>dead.

The point panda mentions near the endgame was easier, I'd jacked up my 'Lift' ability to max so when the guy ran at me I just sent him flying (I think he ended up on Zakera Ward or something). Lift and Singularity were pretty much the bread'n'butter here as they disabled Krogan regeneration when they were off the ground.

Ah shit, I forgot about that! You're right, that's ten times worse easily. I just stayed outside their view as much as possible and picked them off with a sniper rifle, which I was fortunate enough to have max skill in, so I had the "Jesus Bullet" skill you get at the end of the upgrade line, there. And I never played as a biotic in ME1, so I never had the ability to try that, and I never bother with my squadmates' skills, because they're all big boys and can take care of their own affairs.

Thanks for reminding me I still need to try and beat Mile High Club on Veteran. I think it's like the one achievement I'm missing. Last time I tried, I gave up after fifty. :/

Dwarf Fortress.

It's awesome...sheer awesomeness. But the learning curve and the gameplay can be horribly difficult for a while.

I've been totally addicted to this game for the past few weeks. I can't stop playing, gah.

Call of Duty gets stupid on veteran difficulty. The amount of times I die playing a campaign is ridiculous. It's gotten somewhat easier with regenerating health. I remember the British level in 2 where you had to escape in an armored car; I had messed up earlier in the level, so I had to beat it without the car being hit once or it would explode. By the time I beat it, my aim was muscle memory, guy with panzerfaust on roof, next guy by cart, turn around as the tank just showed up so you can hit the guys coming up behind me.

Demon's Souls was easy by comparison.
