Persona 3 FES
Persona 4
Okami
Dragon Quest 8
These are all great RPG's, and I suggest them as well. Especially the Persona games, I am currently playing those myself.

Are we suggesting PS1 games as well?
Do it up! My PS1 collection consists mostly of Crash Bandicoots and Spyro the Dragons, with some Tony Hawks, Gex's, and a Parasite Eve thrown in.

Acquiring these would be trickier, but the nostalgia trip would probably be worth it.

Ah, Timesplitters. Any past the first one is fuuuun times, and that's for sure. "The moooose is loooose!"

I found the GTA games pretty terrible on the PS2, but maybe that's just me.

The .hack// series is amazing. I hate JRPGs because they're too overdramatic, overcomplicated and cartoony, not to mention usually punishingly hard. The .hack series is a beautiful exception. The first series is amazing until the stunning finale to episode 2. After that the gameplay becomes repetitive and the amazing story slows to a glacial crawl.

.hack//G.U., the new series, fixes all those problems as well as making combat worlds better, more interesting characters, great animation and monster design, a sweet upgradable steam bike, and did I mention better combat? I don't think I've ever had so much fun racking up combos, using skills and chainsawing my enemies into submission. Might not be easy to grab the first part, though. There are 3 episodes.

Good on you to have Parasite Eve. I love that game an unhealthy amount as well.

The Dino Crisis games are incredibly fun (if silly enough to make a paleontologist hang herself), with combo counters, multiple guns and big fights with bigger dinosaurs. You'll never look at a T-Rex the same way again.

If you can actually find them, both Gungrave games.

Also Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.

Maybe you could try to scrounge up a copy of Gungrave: Overdose [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.187936-Poll-Gilligan-Review-Lines-Gungrave-Overdose]?

The Jak trilogy and the six Ratchet and Clank games (although you may not like Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank, I seem to be one of the only people who do.)

Well, if that doesn't convince me to hunt that one down, nothing will.

I guess saying Shadow of the Colossus would be redundant. Definitely a game that ages like fine wine.

Where's the God of War love?

I'd say Ratchet series and Jak series.

Katamari anyone?

ummm... Metal Gear Solid series. arguably the best game series ever.

Devil May Cry?

honestly I think the PS2 was the pinnacle of (single player) gaming...

I'm gonna get away from the Shadow of Colossus suggestions and say any Ace Combat game from 4-zero. Great games.

A man after my own heart, now get away.

All of those, except Devil May Cry, humor is always good, but its playability dies quick.

Also if your into stealth games, def. give Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven a good look, the pinnacle of the Tenchu Series.

For RPGs I'd have to recommend Dragon Quest 8 easily 100+ hours of gameplay if you do the sidequests. Persona 3 and Persona 4 are masterpieces as well (recently saw P4 for 20 bucks in the "game day" sale at gamestop).

As for other genres I would recommend Shadow of the Colossus.
+1 for all these suggestions. Great games.

*Also, nice avatar.

unless you've played it, i say go with the Kingdom Hearts series. IMOH: It's got a great story to it.
IMOH: in my opinion, honest...?

if im not mistaken, its "in my honest opinion"

wow, im being a grammar nazi towards 'net lingo

anyway, i second that, though re:com felt kinda pointless, as in a way, they pull the "its all a dream" thing, AT THE BEGINNING.

like...the fudge were they thinking?

That suggestion for Persona 3 FES is a good one! I picked it up totally at random at EB one day. I was like, "what the hell? I'm gonna take a gamble on a game I know nothing about." And I struck gold.

It's like Diablo (1) meets the sims, meets Final Fantasy (ps1 era). You manage your characters time you might any other real life instance. Like, you have to plan your time out if you want to be productive and effective.

There's a big story happening, and all the while, your character has to maintain his life as per any other high school student. You have to study for exams/mid terms, participate in club activities, and have a social life. THEN you have to save the gawd-dayum world in your off hours without going into sleep dep! It's very involved. Very cool. probably still like, 20 bucks at any place that knows its value. Check amazon for used copies.

I'm planning on getting Silent Hill Shattered Memories (SH1 reimagined). Under 30 bucks. Since it's new, and not a classic, you probably haven't played it. :)

Actually, anything Atlus has ever done is a good start.
I dunno, they did this Final Fantasy Tactics wannabe, that had voice acting SO BAD, I had to return the game. :(
