1) Basically. More specifically though it's when Italy convoys an army into Syria or Smyrna. If Italy can pull it off it basically cripples Turkey's early expansion and sets Italy up as the mediterranean sea power. It is very much preventable though if Turkey thinks it's coming, which is why announcing you intend to do a Lepanto is almost always a bad idea.Zemalac said:

But on to the main attraction. In the end I decided picking from a hat would be too boring and ungeeky - so I rolled dice. Don't worry, I made sure it was all probabilistically equal (can you believe 'probabilistically' gets through the spell-checker? I thought I was being silly and whimsical.). So without further ado:
Zemalac = England
shotbyamonk = Turkey
Armitage Shanks = Italy
BoVinE = Russia
Dastardos = France
Khedive Rex = Austria-Hungary
dekkarax = Germany
The map:
The deadline for first orders will be Thursday next week. Deadlines will be tougher later on, but you all need time now to establish relationships and begin your planning from scratch.

Oh Austria, we meet again. Probably just as well that I got him though, Austria has a real tough position in this game. With the addition of fleets in Italy, Austria might actually start this as the weakest power. Let me promise though, it won't end that way.

Wait, one question. Since it's all in PM's we're playing without grey-mail right? Or are we supposed to create secondary accounts just for sending annonymous messages?

I assume grey-mail is for anonymous tip-offs, anonymous fear-mongering, anonymous threats, anonymous black-mail and other pursuits involving anonymity. Personally I don't have a problem; but we should remember firstly that the Escapist mods probably won't take kindly to dual accounts; and secondly, unless other players adopt this 'grey-mail' of which you speak every such message will effectively have your name on it.
It's a great idea, but isn't workable on a forum. Still, if you can figure out a solution please tell me.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Grey-mail is just when you give someone a message without letting them know who the message is from. Like you said, anonymous tip-offs and/or fear mongering. It's useful if it's done right but I really don't know how we'd make it work on a forum. I think you'd have to have second accounts but, as you say, I'm not sure the mods would be cool with that.Saskwach said:
