Dirty multiplayer tactics

I just cannot understand it. Most of us play multiplayer games, or have at least played a few in our past, and the general point of it is to have fun. Right? That's what I thought. And when I'm playing online I do have a lot of fun. Up until the guy who's sitting the the secret camping spot pops me from across the map. Then I get a little bit pissed. Why do people who camp do it? I don't get it. I've seen, on spectator modes, people sit for entire matches sometimes, waiting for players for pass their patch. And even then, they can miss and have to wait another age for someone to waltz by. This is made even worse in TF2 when it's an engineer who has the highest-level sentry - although, to be fair, in TF2 camping is harder when there's ubercharges involved.

Camping's my pet-hate when it comes to multiplayer. What's yours?

Camping makes you kill number higher than your death number, increasing your ratio.

There are allot of people out there who believe that a higher number mean that you are having more fun, so they'll try to increase the numbers in their statistics rather than actually playing the game. They're also the people who will do everything in order to get achievements on the 360.

Anywaaay...
Any game suffering from Mario Kart syndrome, and the people that abuse it.

Grenade spamming. Especially on CoD4. Sometimes I can't even get my foot in the door everyone just spams 'em.

I can't stand to see people move side-to-side and jump around like a lunatic. More than anything to me, that breaks any immersion that was left after grenade-spamming, aimbots, wallhacks, and "your momma" jokes. Especially if they can dance about like that, then put a bullet (or laser, plasma ball, etc.) smack in your face. Are people incapable of using cover or tactics in a gunfight anymore?

I'd have to say that outright cheating is my least favorite multiplayer "tactic." This includes third party models hacks, aimbots, or simply futzing with your Internet connection to throw off the enemys' aim.

I take games seriously. Consequently, I fantasize about murdering and/or physically debilitating cheaters. I'm a reasonable man, though - I'd settle for it being declared a federal crime with a mandatory 2 year prison sentence.

Oh the list is long, Bunny hoppers, dolphin diving (Battlefield 2), Precision noob tube (grenade launcher) from the spawn point into my spawn point, when the entire team nade spams, etc.

I can understand snipers camping, that's part of being a sniper. Find a good position, kill, then move on. However, if you don't have a sniper rifle, there really is no need to camp. One good thing about enemies persistently camping is finding them after you respawn and KILLING THEM BACK!

As for actual cheaters, I think that some people can only have fun when they're robbing other people of it.

That's why I like Gears of War as a multiplayer game, because you have to have some form of strategy and co-operation if you want to succeed. Although there is a huge amount of glitching in some games; crab-walking, weapon-sliding etc.

I would go farther than the monopoly guy, and just say grenades. They can be used well and in interesting ways, but my experience with regular frag grenades is really annoying in multiplayer games. I would say at least a quarter of my deaths in games come from my allies grenades. Either because they decided to throw them in an empty, except for me, room for no reason, or they throw one right next to me when I'm behind cover, leaving me with the choice of certain death next to a grenade, or the slim chance of living from trying to run through a field of bullets. Or I'm teamed with an ally and have to kill one guy, but instead of just shooting, my ally throws a grenade at the moving target, so the enemy kills my partner and I.

I have a question for anyone who plays COD4, if you use Martydom and aren't using a shotgun, why? I've had to dive out of countless second story windows because one of my teammates, who's a sniper of some sort, has martydom.

I don't know if anyone has played the multiplayer on Ratchet and Clank 3.
It has potential to be great, but its completely broken.
All people do is go into strafe and jump/side flip around firing the sniper.
Not only do they look like dicks it just completely misses the point.
Unless you're really good at it, (which unfortunately the only people you can now play on it are), theres no real skill involved, its just a matter of luck and who gets hit first.
I remember trying to play it using other weapons to no avail simply getting killed without doing any damage and watching to see if other players ever used another weapon, which they didn't.

A strategy that as far as I know was never used online but me and my friend developed "for lols" on AoE2 would have pissed everyone off.
First of all teams are not locked. Then you build a load of bombard towers in one of your ally's bases. Then you set your stance to enemy. The reason this works so well is the AI sends you several messages before it changes it's stance. When it sounds like they are about to break the alliance you set your stance to ally, then after you get the thanking message repeat the process. I doubt this would work so well, and in a way is kinda pointless unless you strike a deal with the enemy online, and unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) tactics like that are often beyond online players.

I've come across two snipers who used martyrdom and it says I've played over 5 days worth of matches. It's got to be the stupidest tactic I've ever heard of, but thankfully the vast majority of people aren't stupid enough to try it. I really dislike martyrdom but that's probably a mark of how useful it is, because every CoD4 player has been killed by it at least once (probably).

Camping make my blood boil.

I just don't see the point of sitting in a single play just waiting for one person to walk by killing them and then thinking to yourself, "I fought hard for that".

Personally once i have been killed by a camper, I remember where they are and once I respawn I find the best way of killing them and I continue in that fashion until they move or quit the game like a cry-baby.

See thats the thing, I use Juggernaut and martyrdom together which normally I would say is the most noobful, 'you suck at the game' tactic to get kills, but I do it with the shotgun so its warranted.

EDIT: Another thing that pisses my off to no end is when the entire other team is sniping making it impossible to get out of your spawn point without getting shot. This is especially true on Countdown. But I found a tactic that lets me charge them without getting seen and they cry when the entire team gets torn to pieces cause their all snipers. (I love my shotgun hehe)

Crossfire's a tough map to get by if there's campers galore in the other team. Especially if you start out as the OpFor.

Don't get me started on whole sniper teams on countdown, played it the other day and I would take 3 steps and just get sniped. Who is finding this fun? Well I guess the other team were when they took home their masses of points. These are the same type of people who are level 55 and won't let you forget it. Annoying little brats.

How do you define camping? Say, in TF2, when a player places a sentry in a relatively guarded area that still has a view of the capture point, is that guarding? If it is, then the Engineers are useless when not camping, cause otherwise all players can just destroy them from out of range.
To be honest, it's just CoD4 that suffers from annoying campers - or rather, it's CoD4's campers that annoy me more than any others. Sure, getting bagged by the same sentry when in it's in an invincible position isn't really fun, but sentries get destroyed by spies and ubercharges so it all balances out.

In RTS's finding a highly superior faction and exploiting its strengths (I'm looking at you, AoE2 and your ability to build Goths in barracks at 5 secs apiece!)
