Cheating is my least favorite multilayer tactic. Otherwise if its in the game, and the developers don't remove it with patches or balance it, its fair game.
People have fun in different ways, none of these ways are "wrong" in a video game, they can simply go against the "common social expectation"

an extreme and stupid way of saying it would be using this example. "murder isn't wrong... its just horribly antisocial"
lol. camping, noob-tubing, stairwell-sitting, nade spamming, bunny-hopping, and my oh-so-favorite rocket jumping, if their left in the game, their in the game, and they are :fair: game.
Yes, but that doesn't mean it's not dirty. We're voicing what people do that causes us to lose fun or interest in the game. It's what we feel goes against our 'honor as gamers'. Some of us hold ourselves to a higher standard and believe that a fair(and fun)-for-all game is more important than winning.

Spawn camping isn't dirty. It's proactive defence. A spy can earn you a good few extra seconds to capture a point. A heavy and a medic can hold a team back until they start to communicate. Unless the team gets a level 3 sentry set up outside the spawn you can never spawn camp long against a communicating team.

EDIT: People who play mario kart wii with the controller are almost as bad as people who play dance dance revolution with a control pad.

Controllers are the new snaking.

Huh. We're getting alot of FPS-specific bitching in here, when there's so much else to be pissed about.

Forget spamming and camping, why is nobody annoyed about wavedashing and snaking? I think there's just more 360 gamers than old Nintendo junkies here. In general, I can't stand powergamers. Anybody who concentrates on the metagame so much that it feels like you're playing an entirely different game. -And if you're not, they'll kill you instantly. It ruins the fun for everybody.

Do people here play Mario Kart DS online? If you don't snake, you don't win, period. The game you're playing is no longer Mario Kart, it's snaking. Mario Kart should be about the characters, the items, the tracks.. when really it's just about picking a character and kart that have the right stats to spam leftrightleftrightleftright really really fast. Honestly, there are better ways to get carpal tunnel syndrome.

Ever try playing Smash Melee against one of these people? The one tournament level guy I fought in the space of 10 seconds was able to pick Shiek, turn off all items, and pick Final Destination before I could say "hey you jerk, no items is for wimps who can't dodge a beam sword". He then proceeded to wave dash the crap out of me. SLIDESLIDESLIDEC-STICKDOWNSPIKE. I don't want to play my games with other people if said people are going to suck all the fun out of it and then give me a pounding migraine with the way they metagame. Seriously, you can hear the shoulder buttons screaming in pain.

The Powergamer: Anyone who cares more about winning than having fun, and also knows how to break games to do it. IMO; the natural evolution of a button masher. I can beat hackers with a little luck, but it's these people I really hate. Who's with me?
So just cause they enjoy/have fun playing the game a different way then you means your in the right and they are in the wrong?

Tournyfags in SSB:M aren't that hard to beat at all. They think they're so great at mindgames when in reality they're predictable: they always attack the same way, always use the same tactics, always use the same characters.

Ech. I don't like the phrase 'tourneyfag' much, because I don't hate homosexuals.

Honestly, I haven't had enough practice against high level players to know, I'm the best Smasher in my own circle, and I consider myself about as good as you can get without becoming a powergamer. (I.E. I refuse to learn metagame as a stand on principle.)

I'm not pissed because they're "better than me" or some BS like that, I'm pissed because the whole pro gamer / winning is more important than having fun business defies what games are all about. It gets back to what several other players said about having fun by ruining it for everybody else.

These players don't just have fun in a 'different' way from myself, they make it impossible to have fun in any way other than their own. Powergamers kill variety and fun by establishing the one right way to win, and if you don't follow their lead you lose automatically.

In Halo 3, I'd say pretty much somebody using the rockets (and is good with them) on narrows or any other small map with rockets. Now i like halo but the thing that I think makes it good is that not very many weapons can just kill someone in a heartbeat, i respect snipers because that takes some skill, shotties piss me off but you still have to get close to them, but rockets are just ridiculous, call me an idiot noob but the only thing rockets should be for is for taking out vehicles.

Well I don't know about online, but I know in person I've had one in particular a lot. Playing super smash or mario party, a friend of mine used to very subtly pull people's cords out of the gamecube with his feet when no one was looking. So you go from 'Yaay, colorful minigames!' to 'This...wait...WHAT'S HAPPENING WHERE ARE ALL MY COINS MOTHERF-' in about a split second.

Besides that it annoys you, what is fundamentally wrong with nade spamming? You're given grenades so why can't you use them? Because people will get angry if you *gasp* kill them? The same applies to camping: the designer have, whether they meant to or not, made a position that rewards staying put. Why can't I use it? Chivalry?
Here's a tickler: I know someone is chasing me and that in front of me is a known camping spot. Should I hide in this spot and wait for him to pass by, and thus win thanks to positional advantage, or should I fight the "fair fight" in the open? Another: What if I know he's a better twitch player but I know the map better? Am I not allowed to use this knowledge by moving around or *another gasp* NOT moving around the map as advantages ME and not him. Competitions are about finding advantages and exploiting them; if you can't stop players exploiting their own advantages (patience, for example, and knowledge of a good camping spot) then you aren't playing to win, or you aren't good enough to beat their tactic, or the game is legitimately flawed- because allows a truly unbalanced tactic.
If you aren't playing to win: I seriously do, or at the very least prefer to do well), but you simply have a few "rules" in your head that you believe should govern the game. In actual fact these rules don't exist.
If you aren't good enough to beat camping/nade spamming/whatever: become better if your object is to win. It's just that simple. Stop whining because someone found a way to bring their own abilities to the fore and mitigate yours.
If the game is truly flawed: find a new game.

I can beat campers easily, I can beat people that spam nades, easily. But they still piss me off.
The problem is that they stick to cheap tactics instead of actually playing the game.

It's not about losing to them, it's about disruptive playing styles.

that's why i refuse to play that game online. common courtesy in my friend circle is to pick a different character every round and play with items on very high. adds a lot of chance to the game. we also don't care who wins, it's about the fun.

Eh. My policy is to always play unranked mode, because I win 90% of the time anyway and therefore don't need snaking. The most fun matches I have are when nobody snakes and it decomposes into an item slinging slugfest. Typically you stay neck and neck the whole match with like two other people and the three of you are just flinging shit at each other all through the race. If the opponents start to snake I can do it well enough to keep up, but anybody really good at it (like most of the people in my current ranking for Rivals mode) kick my ass.

See to many people get pissed off cause people don't play how they play.

Cheap tactic in your eyes, but tactical advantage in others.

By grenade spamming we mean that a person throws a grenade randomly in hopes to get a kill, with no real knowledge as to where the enemy is. For us 'fair' gamers it disallows the person killed to actually pit their skills against the opponent. Now grenades are perfectly fine when you know (at least generally) where your target(s) are. As for camping, your examples are basically setting traps, which I applaud anyone for. As long as there's a reasonable method to beat a camper, I don't thing very many of us would mind.

As for winning and fairness, I personally do a very good job at the games I play. It's also not that I don't want to win, it's just that I refuse to sacrifice 'fairness' to achieve that win. I'm not forcing this on you and I don't want anyone else to.

Dude, thank you, thats exactly it. When did people start taking games seriously?? I was talking to some guy who said he hacked his HALO multiplayer and felt so proud. What? Who caes, you play online games to chill and have fun.

one of the best RTS for cheap tactics is supream commander forged alliance
I only use this aganst CPUs because its cheap and I dont get invited back to play agane
so this is what you do build up your base with lots of turrets shields and such so it is next to imposible to destroy then build lots of construction bots then use the bots to build exparemental artilary (they can fire a super powerful shot to anywear on the map) then you just build more until you can decemate any opponent anywear with no lose of troops on your part. then you can march in under cover of artilary and destory the remander of there base with minimal damage to you.

Haha, sweet. Bowser is awesome. I need to just get better at the game in general. Though these days all the people at my university's gaming club play is Brawl, which has better balance and no wavedashing, so it's kind of a moot point.

Dude, I was arguing with a friend I know IRL over XBL and he said, and I quote "Games aren't for having fun." I had to remind myself to breathe.

Sorry but I have to dissagree, although camping sometimes pisses me off, there is ALWAYS a way around it. If someone camps an entire match waiting for pray then they usually aren't going to get as good a score as a person thats actively persuing the match objective, and even if they do they still contributed less to the win.

I can see how if you play purely for fun it could piss you off but many people (including me) play most multiplayer games for the competativity, camping is a valid strategy in my opinion, but its also a bad one; if you keep your cool and plan your way to flank or even just plain avoid the camper then you will win.

Metagamers and sliders in SSBM are no problem for me. See, I don't metagame. Yes, I pay attention to who they pick. I know every characters strengths and weaknesses, and how to exploit them. Usually my opponent does too. But the one thing they don't know: Is that I am better than them. You see, I don't use glitches, hax, or silly tactics to win. I use my awesome skill.
man you should play my friend hes the god of SSBM. he beat event51 in 50 seconds with doctor mario and i think his last record on cruel melee was 312. he is insane.

i hate people who deny in Dota they say its a part of the game BUT i dont like it. EVERYTIME YOU DENY GOD KILLS A KITTEN. THINK OF THE KITTENS.

people who are really bad at team games and play team games. i was playing halo 3, i was straffing and firing my smg, the guy i was firing at was doing the same. he starts to reload before me so i know im dead there is no way i can reload fast enough to get the kill. threw the corner of my eye i see a guy on my team running towards my enemy i go "great he'll kill this guy and save me". not only does my noobish ally not see me but he doesn't see my enemy which is shocking when he walks right INFRONT OF HIM then hops in a ghost and drives off leaving me to get a lead sandwhich.

i dont mind people using glitchs because atleast rocket jumping, grenade jumping.etc takes a little bit of skill to pull off were as "ima make im my bullets shoot through walls because my daddy touches me in the shower" those types of people make me sad in pants.
