Deus Ex Human Revolution... even the lead developers admit that it was a poor sequel and too dumbed down...<.<
You mean Invisible War, right? Human Revolution isn't even out yet.
Yeah sorry... I've just got Human Revolution on the mind right now since so many trailers have already been released...<.<
Seriously you guys what on earth was wrong with Invisible war? That's one of my favorite games! It was also the first that let ME live out an adolescent power fantasy for once. Yup. I got to give the entire world super powers while someone behind me jibbered something about free will n' stuff......There! You're all equal now, deal with it! God that was more fun than I thought I'd ever have with a video game. An' I still get misty when I listen to J.C. Denton's speech.

For me it would be Mass Effect 2. Sorry I still love the series but it was disappointing that they made 2/3 of my stock team from the first game NPCs in this one. They took one of their best and most usefull characters in my opinion (Liara) and turned her into a fetch quest all while telling me my driving priveleges had been revoked. Owie.

Monolith would continue to put out games featuring boring soldiers spouting the usual "cover me" style dialogue in warehouse/slum style game levels.
With the exception of the awesome No One Lives Forever, that is. (And its less-appealing but still kind of fun sequel.) Anyone who's even halfway into 60s-style spy movies should check it out.

Devil May Cry 2: Just.. meh, and if you're making a sequel to a game by Hideki Kamiya then "meh" should be the very goddamn last thing people think.

Modern Warfare 2: MW1 actually had a pretty good sp campaign. This one didn't.

Dragon Age: Awakening: While it's an expansion, I think it suffices. They just dumbed everything down. In a way it kind of seems like Dragon Age: Origins is the vastly improved sequel to Awakening, with Awakening being kind of a prototype that has some good ideas but doesn't really work.

F.E.A.R.2: Another example of "the first one was okay, let's do the same thing again only worse".

Fallout 3: Oh sure, New Vegas was buggy, but that's really the only serious criticism of it. FO3, however, was just dull. I guess the difference is that Obsidian can actually write.

I really should stop bashing it but dammit Wild Arms 4, an awful peace of junk. Picked it up becasue I was told it was better than the excellent Wild Arms 3,not even close.

Fable 2. I really, really liked the first one but instead of tightening an already robust experience Lionhead took to it with a fire-axe. And that would have been ok if they replaced it with better material but instead they concentrated on adding things that weren't crucial to the experience.
As a standalone game Fable 2 would have been great, but as a successor to the original it is somewhat underwhelming.

All 3 were awesome, spectacular, brilliant, and overall, excellent games.
Fixed that for you. No need to thank me.

Oh but there is just so many bad sequels to chose from. I will try and stick to some of my biggest dissapointments.

Half Life 2 - the atmosphere and gameplay of the original replaced with a pyhsics engine and lack of soul. May as well have been called "Gravity Gun".

Carmegeddon 3 - an atrocious game in any right but made worse considering how enjoyable the first 2 games were.

C&C series - all the sequels that EA developed (bar RA2) are horrid immitations on Westwood classics.

Ghost Recon - The rainbow six series including Rogue Spear was hardcore but Ghost Recon was so wrong and started the dumbing down of the series.

Except you didn't, because they are still terrible.
Spouting out your opinion by acting as if mine is automatically wrong is just plain idiotic.
And I'm just going to assume that you'll edit this quote into another "hilarious" snarky comment to further your status as a troll. Have fun.

Any Rainbow Six game beyond Raven Shield, GRAW, anything beyond Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, any X-Com game that isn't turn based, Invisible War (duh!), Mass Effect 2, and the third Soldier Of Fortune game whatever that was called. They all removed complexity and depth from the original games, except Soldier Of Fortune, with that one thay just removed the fun.

I was being sarcastic. I apologize, did not mean for you to take it that way.

Totally agree on Half Life 2. I just could never get into it. Never saw what the big deal was, in all honesty.

I will disagree on Oblivion seeing as I've sunk about 1200 hours into that game >>

All 3 were buggy, boring, un-fun, and overall, bad games.

Also: Half Life 2 (All Episodes)

Half Life 1 was mediocre at best, but the sequels were just plain shitty. I was severely disappointed.
You must have high standards if all these AAA games were boring, buggy and unfun.

I can respect that :p

Though overall I actually enjoyed Oblivion and Fallout 3, and Fallout: NV did have better weapons IMO, but all 3 definitely had some room for improvement. As for Half-Life... I'm with you, I just don't see why everyone loves it so much.

Most recently, Fable 3 comes to mind, I mentioned in a different thread:

Fable 1 was pretty good, nice first attempt; Fable 2 was much improved over 1, improving upon what it did well overall; Fable 3 was SOO dumbed down and boring, they removed an entire aspect of the game to focus on Molyneux's delusions (at least, that's what it appears to be, with what his games seem to focus on).

Devil May Cry 2&4. I liked 2 well enough; it just was not as good as the first one. Devil May Cry 4 was terrible. I couldn't play it anymore. I just was not having fun. The battles were not fun, the story wasn't fun, the new but same character wasn't fun. Capcom, you saw the failure Konami brought with that. Why would you even try?

Fable 3
-The only thing it had to stand on was it's improved graphics, and if i played games for just the graphics i'd just give up and watch films instead.

Fable 2
-You could have been amazing, why did you put your fantastically improved controls to such a poor story?
I really liked Fable 3. The story was to be generous...decent. I mean there were plenty of plot holes and such but the concept was, ok. They told it well for how stupid it was[footnote]although that is like saying one actor did well in a completely awful movie[/footnote]. I also really liked the battle system. It seemed much more streamlined. Fable 2, yeah complete shit.

Any Spyro the Dragon game that wasn't for the original playstation
-It is my lifes mission to find who was responsible for finding the person responsible for this and exacting my revenge for the murder of my childhood hero.
Ted Price of Insomniac did admit [http://www.gamespot.com/ps/action/spyrothedragon/video/6091786/insomniac-games-video-retrospective] responsibility for giving up all their dev rights to Universal to work directly to Sony simply because they couldn't think of much else Spyro could do. It helped Insomniac, but predictable results followed for Spyro, not to mention the exact same thing with Naughty Dog and Crash Bandicoot.

Mass Effect 2 (Didn't feel as epic as the first one)
Fable 3 (Fable has been getting worse. Lionhead need to look back at Fable 1 and realise all that made it great)
COD: Black Ops (Really limited replay value, I got bored after a few days. And don't hark on about the multiplayer, I believe in the strong singleplayer campaign)
