Anything with Shiina Ringo involved. Her solo stuff is usually based in traditional rock or jazz. She pretty much uses every instrument in her solo stuff and she has to perform with an orchestra when she performs live just due to all the instruments used. Her band, Tokyo Jihen, is pretty much your standard rock band with a jazz influence with just great guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and vocals. Here's a quote from a Tokyo Jihen album review:

You [Tokyo Jihen] created new music unlike anything else in the industry, yet drawing elements from the entire scene. This is what every artist should aim to achieve.
One of her solo songs:

A Tokyo Jihen song:

Shiina Ringo's music and Muse's music is pretty much the only modern music I love.

All very good bands.
I think you'll find that these three are actually really popular and well known.
And also really crap.

Also, if people are going to post bands that they want people to listen to, it might help if people write what kind of music a particular band makes. I don't want to sift through hundreds of death metal bands before I find a nice Rythm n Blues one or w/e.

Country
United States
Zechs Marquise
The Joy Formidable
The Black Keys
Company of Thieves
The Heavy

Found most of those bands by sheer accident, The Black Keys are fairly well know but that doesn't make them less awesome.

You like Deadmau5, eh? Maybe you'll like Skrillex, a dubstep/electro artist that's signed on his label, Mau5trap.

You single out King Crimson out of all of the bands there? It's the only good one OP listed.

Here is a song from Hugh Laurie, that's right the guy who plays house is also a musician. I only just found that out a few weeks ago and it surprised the hell out of me.

Have you listened to songs or tracks using a mix of traditional oriental instruments and modern instruments? Not sure if you want to listen to Eastern music, but there are many interesting tunes.
