Say Sony does call it quits, which is ludicrous at best, Microsoft would probably get most of Sony's playerbase.

Wrong. I bought stuff from them. Gave them my credit card. If they lost it, they are liable.
lolol. That user agreement you didn't read but accepted absolved them of any liability. Sup fine print.

Realistically? Sony doesn't leave. It gets behind Nintendo for a while and builds itself up again.

I would love to see apple put out a console, but it would be so expensive. It would probably look really snazzy, though.
It would probably have a controller with ONE button.

Atari? No.
SEGA? I wish.
Panasonic? No. No. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Apple? Apple can stay casual for all I care, if they got into the real gaming market then they would have complete control over our minds.

But who, who could replace the hole left by the PS3?........ Blizzard.

Why Blizzard? You ask.

Well it would sell kagillions in Korea and every fat, lifeless nerd in America would buy it so there you go.
Pluralize if your gonna insult people, better yet just don't insult people for liking a brand. You realise Blizzard is globally popular and most people who play them have very healthy, normal lives right? There will always be extremists, by your logic that rare 1% sport nut has no life.

No, no. The world will rip itself apart in a vortex of gravitation, and we will all be caught taking the dog for a piss, wondering wtf did I do with my life.

16. WARRANTY DISCLAIMER AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

Other than as set out in these Conditions, we give no warranty about the quality, functionality, availability, completeness, accuracy or performance of Sony Online Network or any Services available via Sony Online Network. We do not guarantee Sony Online Network will always be available or error free and we assume no liability for your inability to purchase or use any Services.
They're not liable.

Sony's lawyers are smarter than you and have planned for this eventuality.
ouch now i feel bad for them i have a good feeling this class action will fall on its face and if it doesn't i doubt it'll affect them as much as these people think

I wish sony would go under, but It will never happen. Nor will they close there gaming division. To much money into it, and there are still a lot of people that like sony. I have to say that if the same thing had happens to Microsoft and sony was not having these problems id be switching.

Never underestimate the power of fanboys.

Also with regards to the above post about sony not being liable for purchases made, that says nothing about them LOSING your credit card number. The only point of that statement is to say "if your service goes down, were not responsible". Thats different than saying "If your services goes down and all of your info is stolen, were still not responsible".

Id also like to point out that the terms of sonys EULAs has been subject to law suits as well. If there is a federal or state law saying companies have to take responsibility for stuff like this, you bet your ass its going to override that EULA.

My guess is OnLive. Perhaps now with one of the big 3 gone it will get popularity of its own. Though I would love to see sega come back its probably not happening.

If Apple were to jump in they'd go head first with an Apple TV device and target a much more casual marketplace then the Wii could ever even hope to corner. I'm also put off to the whole "lost a shit ton of cred among the more active gamers" Nintendo thing, as far as I'm concerned they've got the one half of the hardcore crowd plus the Casual Family market while Sony and Microsoft have the other half and the Casual Teen market.

If console's were to start failing I think the future's pretty clear. Systems like OnLive and home consoles running SteamA Valve Console, could you imagine? or App Stores taking over the market. The chance to tie in the online purchasing and streaming capabilities of these systems is where the future will eventually end up so long as internet becomes increasingly more common in households. I'd like to see Nintendo try a system like this, but there are companies that are way ahead of the game in that regard.

The only issue with that are controllers and what developers need to consider in that regard. Wether or not we settle on a PS like controller like most USB controllers are OR wether or not Tuch Screens and Motion Controls become almost a standard.

Anyway, the Future is Awesome.

Microsoft might take over for all we know. Sony could fall behind, and "project cafe" could go the way of the Dreamcast (perhaps that is unlikely but you never know). I hope apple doesn't join, if they end up becoming a monopoly.... that is it for console gaming.

I do not think Sony is going to stop making game consoles, but if they did there would not be a void. There still would be Microsoft, Nintendo, and computers. That is plenty enough systems for people, there would still be an XBox for people who want to spend money, a Wii for people who want to play games, and computers for modders and people who need to do things other than play games.

I hope PS3 stays alive. I am a staunch xbox 360 supporter myself, but if the playstation was knocked out, that would leave xbox as the only hardcore console. Microsoft wouldn't have anything to compete with, and wouldn't have to try as hard. The PS3 going down would be bad news for all gamers. I mean, interactive entertainment enthusiasts.

With their roughly $70,000,000,000 in cash, Apple could buy both Valve and OnLive with plenty left over. Perhaps that's what that massive data center they built in NC is for!

Also, this is not likely to happen.

Yeah, this is a real possibility. Then again maybe Northern America blasts off into space and settles on Mars, thereby causing Microsoft to leave the race.
This is exactly what I was thinking. While it could happen, it almost certainly won't.
That's what you think Muahahahahahah *Twirls mustache*
