Some games are built for multiplayer.

Others are not.

Not every game needs multiplayer. Some games don't need multiplayer. Some games are better as singleplayer titles. Some players just like singleplayer games more.

I'll take a good singleplayer experience over a purely multiplayer game 8/10 times.

Multiplayer has 3 main problems.

1. It's reliant on other people playing.

2. Competitive side overtakes fun side. People start hacking to get high scores instead of having fun and playing the game how it was meant to be played.

3. Multiplayer requires things to be balanced and fair so everyone can have fun. The game can be poorly balanced, leading to things like the noobtube and noob combo.

How can multiplayer hurt your experience of gaming when you are free to choose not to participate in it? You could just buy single-player games, never touch multiplayer, and never have to live with any of the drawbacks you say it has.
I think the OP meant that devs were cutting down singleplayer to fit in more multiplayer when they really don't need to. If that's happening, the number of good singleplayer games will decrease.
*facepalm* No, I'm saying that multiplayer is fast becoming a cheap, easy cash-in and if we don't start pressuring the industry to make more co-op epics (imagine how much more fun Mass Effect would have been with the 2 squad mates being real friends?) we're going to very shortly see an age where the average gamer is a profanity spewing little brat with ego issues. Single player could use some help, but focusing on single player hurts the whole argument I'm making.

Got to disagree.... First with FPS, After i beat the sp on FPS if it doesnt have mulitplayer i dont really play it again i put it back and think to my self well time to trade this game in.
In mmo, pvp helps out becuase raids are boring the 1132123 time you have run them and you want to have a enemy that does screem when he is about to nuke you..

The reason Call of Duty is so popular is because of Activision's huge marketing budget, not because of how intuitive it is.
I am sorry but that remark just makes no sense in any possible way. If people would have hated the COD games it would never have been as big as it is. Marketing helps, sure, but a game still needs to be good and retain its fans for sequels to work.

So it's popularity has nothing to do with the fact that it's marketed to mostly tweens and teenagers? If we go by your logic, the Transformers film series is actually a great series due to how much money it made.

The fact of the matter is the only reason Call of Duty is so popular is due to marketing. A good game shouldn't need this much marketing to be able to dish out profit.
