Uh, I can't really remember any of the games that I played ten years ago.

So, sure. I guess that I'm a better gamer now than I was ten years ago.

I've never really been good with reflexes, but planning and thinking on my feet has improved vastly over the years of gaming.

I thought I was amazing back then, but looking back, I was average. I got better with age, but to be honest, I'm still decidedly average. I have an average K/D ratio. I don't go for 100% completion in games, and I can't remember the last game I beat (actually it was BLOPS, but that doesn't really count).

Now being 23, I can look back at being 13 and see certain genres slipping out of my hands and others developing nicely overtime. This became extremely apparent when I bought Earthworm Jim HD yesterday, played for about an hour and realised I was much sloppier than I was back then. I think genres with basic mechanics that rely more on reflex decrease with age right around the time you stop going through puberty, but there are genres like RPGs and Action/Adventure and puzzle that I'm much better at now that I have more experiences to draw upon. I know that I wasn't as good at Zelda as I am now. Twilight Princess was a breeze compared to Ocarina of Time back in the day, simply because of boss pattern recognition, similar puzzle structure and knowledge of mechanics that have been a staple for awhile. Sadly, I don't fight as well as I did back then. =S

It depends on the game, honestly. Overall, yes, I have increased in skill. Most of the little games I couldn't play as a 10-year-old, I of course can kick their ass now -- the stupid movie-into-game SNES cartridges, that is. I'm better at adventure games and platformers, but that may or may not be saying much, considering I still think Super Mario Bros. 3 is the hardest thing ever. Chrono Trigger, as good a game as it was, became a cakewalk when I played it on DS, though. I swear that they made it Easy Mode version for the DS, but my friends insist I'm just better at games.

I was saddened to see how formulaic all of the Killer Instinct moves were between characters, though...they all have a projectile with the same button combo, for example. It was sad. So some games got easier, but hard games sometimes just stay hard. (Or get harder, because using an old-school D-pad kicks my ass.)

Overall I'd say I'm better yeah. I was never great at games without practice, and now I've a lot more practice. Besides, I played console shooters till about 2 years ago, so I don't have a reasonable basis for reflex skill.

Reaction time<Prediction.

I would rather be able to know when an enemy will come around the corner than just wait and hope I'm fast enough.

I was 9 so most likely. Although even at that age I was beating games like Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Cross, and Ocarina of Time

Yes, definitely but my dad hasn't gotten better with age though. He's certainly the master at DOW and Sins but can't learn how to play DOW II or Starcraft to save his life. So I think there may be a cut off point.

I think I am better at all games, except for ones that involve dying a lot, like Sonic and Super Meat boy. I just don't have the patience to re-do a level 10 times over any more.

Let's see, I was eight years old and almost never got to play video games, so I'd say yeah I've definitely improved.

Can't imagine why I wouldn't be better at games now from then. Back then I struggled to play Super Smash Bros. now I've beaten games like Ninja Gaiden, Izuna, and I wanna be The Guy. I'd call that an improvement.

My reaction times are a bit slower than before, but my setup for the games I was good at is much, much better.

For example: In most shooters, I know how to anticipate a variety of moves, manage mobs of targets, and aim accurately with most weaponry. In strategy and grid-games, I can immediately grasp the situation and plan several moves well in advance, understanding what sacrifices I can make, and when.

The only games that throw me off consistently are platformers. At least until I get used to the physics (each platformer handles slightly differently).
