I did a poll on DeviantArt and most people hadn't heard of Discworld. Oh, what a world we live in. Any fans out there?

As a child I watched Soul Music and the Wyrd Sisters cartoon, and I recently watched the films for The Colour of Magic and Hogfather. I'm now listening to the audio books...because I am lazy and don't trust myself to finish reading anything. Nigel Planer does a wonderful job with accents! I didn't recognise the actor till I checked google images and recognised him from an ep of Blackadder the Third. So far I've listened to:

The Colour of Magic
The Light Fantastic
Mort
Soul Music
Wyrd Sisters
Witches Abroad
Lords and Ladies
Carpe Jagulum

I'll get to the rest. Some I will leave for the end, like the Tiffany Aching series. Once I'm done with Susan, I'll get to work on Sam Vimes.
No no no! Nononono! Do NOT leave Sam Vimes for the end! READ THE GUARD SERIES NOW!

On topic, my favourites are probably Maskerade (lovely parody of Phantom of the Opera, and opera in general), The Fifth Elephant, Night Watch and Mort.

I couldn't agree more, I mean Rincewind is light and spry and David Jason, while a great comedy actor, isn't. They should have got someone younger like Russle Brand maybe...

The audio tapes dont cut it for me, they cut and abridge the storys too much for my liking. so far i've read every single discworld novel except for a few of the extra things like nanny oggs cookbook.
I'm listening to the unabridged audio books, not the abridged ones.

Discworld is probably the greatest series I have ever read, I especially love the Night Watch novels and I quite enjoy any book with the Unseen University wizards as main characters.

I'm not leaving him for last, don't worry ^^0 Tiffany Aching I'm leaving for last. Sam will be the next series I follow.

I've read all the books and I find his work get weaker the further along the chain you are.

So in order, my fave is book 1, second favourite is book 2... and so on...
Chances are you're more about the fantasy than the political satire. I'm the other way around, though I wouldn't invert your trend, I think it's a lot more random...
Indeed - I personally think the first 2 or 3 books where the worst. Too genre fantasy to me. Fortunately, his work improved greatly over time.

EDIT: Actually, tell a lie, "The Carpet People" was a great book I rented from the library and was his first work, so I'm told. Definitely worth a read if you like Discworld. "Strata" and "Dark Side of the Sun" are also good, but again, more generic sci-ish, but Terry does have some interesting thoughts in them that make them worth reading.

Seriously, am I the only one who's read the Carpet people as well? Well, now I'm a sad panda.

I agree entirely. I'm a fantasy nut. An exception to my earlier premise is, any book involving that bad ass, rapist cat who is owned by the most crotchety of the 3 witches, wins.

He's hilarious.

Greebo! He's so cool. Particularly in Maskerade.
That the one where he became human for a while? He was at a party and all the chicks wanted to shag him due to his "animal magnetism" or some such? Yah, good book.
